LEAPSTART ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH

India has conquered the podium when it comes to the game of Hockey. Our nation has an excellent record with eight Olympic gold medals. Indian hockey's golden period was from 1928-56, when the Indian hockey team won six successive Olympic gold medals.

During the Golden Era, India played 24 Olympic matches, won all 24, scored 178 goals (at an average of 7.43 goals per match) and conceded only 7 goals.

Some even say that the contribution of legendary players like Dhyan Chand and Jaipal Singh Munda is muchgreater than the contribution of even our highest test run scorer, Sachin Tendulkar or for that matter, our highest test-wicket taker Anil Kumble.

The ’national game’ status was conferred on hockey because of our tremendous achievements at the Olympics and other international events.

LEAPSTART FUN CORNERCITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS

Olympic MottoIn 1921, Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games, borrowed a Latin phrase from his friend, Father Henri Didon, for the Olympic motto: “Citius, Altius, Fortius”, meaning “Faster, Higher, Stronger”. Coubertin believed that sports would help to set a balance between mind and body as well as create moral and social strength.

Olympic Creed"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

The creed and motto are meant to spur the athletes to embrace the Olympic spirit and perform to the best of their abilities.

Exercising with the hula hoop has many benefits. A lot of people do not like to exercise because they get bored. However, with the hula hoop there is not one dull moment, only fun and great results! It can be a complete fitness routine, providing the body with flexibility, fitness, weight loss, mobility and coordination. Name any other single exercise that can do all of these at once! There are professional fitness studies that show you can burn up to 100 calories/10 minutes! Isn’t that a fun way to stay fit?
