Mandarin Class teaching Chinese program will be launched on the coming March. Therefore

Participants will be able to experience interactive lessons and a broad variety of Chinese

cultural activities introduced and guided by knowledge instructors. This program is specially

designed to serve those who are interested in learning Chinese and give the opportunity to

all participants explore the essence of Chinese culture.

Program in Brief

Entire program focuses on the skill in pronouncing, reading, speaking, writing and translating

of Chinese, both accurately and fluently. Mandarin Class offers interactive lessons with in-

depth explanation and plenty of exercises which clarifies problems related to the skills tested

during exam period. All these help participants to be able to understand Chinese grammar &

characteristics as a language. Mandarin Class offers 6 lessons within a semester and each

lesson is approximately 90 minutes in length. Every participant is grouped according to their

proficiency level. Each classroom is roughly 20-30 individuals and guided by several trained

teachers and 4 5 individuals formed a group that lead by an instructor for group discussion

purpose.

Teaching Unit

Weekly spelling tests are meant to help participants familiarize the skills their learnt and aid

in remembering new Chinese words. Our teams provide a wide range of teaching notes and

interactive activity to motivate and interest students from all disciplines. Other than that, we

have set an oral test and a final exam to evaluate students learning performances. Mean-

while , much preparation work has to be done to boost students reach the desired level of

competence .Our efforts are aimed to ensure students acquire language skills in order to

communicate well.

Textbook

The lessons in our textbook take into

account the two components, which are

oral test and final exam. The explanatory

notes and some challenging exercises

are certainly practical and enable

students to do the exercise with minimal

guidance to allow more autonomous self-

learning. Teaching materials designed to

have a mixture of simple, moderate and

difficult parts so that students progress

from the easier to difficult level. The writ-

ing section covers a spectrum of basic

topics while speaking section gives the

opportunity for every students to speak

effectively whether individually or in

groups. In short, the teaching materials

have been prepared systemically to help

students prepare for tests and develop

necessary skills

Chinese Cultural Activities

Chinese cultural activities will be introduced into this program to serve a alternative channel for non-Chinese partici-

pants to explore the valuable culture with thousands of years of history and experience its endlessly fascinating

change with modern world. Whether your interests are in history, architecture, music, or cuisine, a knowledge of

Mandarin will enrich your understanding of Chinese culture.

Chinese calligraphy is one of the representative that getting more attention and popularity at the global state. In or-

der to share with others, we provide full set of stationery, materials needed and instructors that capable of providing

comprehensive guideline to conduct the calligraphic session. As a whole, each batch of candidates really enjoy the

great first hand experience.

Next, Chinese paper cutting is another attractive Chinese cultural activity. The special paper cutting style determine

its unique shape and pattern formed which is a highly decorative art. The making process exactly enhances the

interactions among students themselves from different background, age and religion. Moreover, it boosts imagina-

tion and creativity, and exposes students to new paper cutting design ideas in mindsets.

Mandarin Class is intended to release more customized study programs for local colleges

and overseas students. We work closely and plan to design a new program that will meet the

needs and objective.

Besides that, we try to incorporate more pedagogical knowledge, creativity in teaching way

and flexible learning schedule. We always modify the content of learning materials by adding

more ideas and resources that intended for classroom use as well as for self-study.

In future, more outdoor learning trips will be implemented. It might be a more preferable way

of study among students because it certain to provide a new and fresh study environment

and more relax learning atmosphere compare to traditional classroom method.

Can I still register after the start date?

You only can register at the booth or online registration before application deadline mentioned.

How long does this program last ?

The program starts on 10 March 2015 and ends on the middle of April 2015.

What textbook do I need for it ?

None - there is no required textbook. All learning materials will be provided.

How much do I need to work for this class?

This is an ambitious and optional class that covers fundamental topics. Furthermore, the only way of mas-tering the Chinese language is actually regarding your own hard work. In general, Mandarin Class students typically report an average of 3-4 hours spent each week, include lecture, tests, homework and exams.

How is the grade assigned ?

Grades ( Pass or Not Pass) are based on a combination of scores on the weekly spelling tests, an oral test and a final exam.

How many type of level provided ?

Mandarin Class provide two type of level which are level one for beginner and level two for more advanced learner.

If I learn Chinese, will it help me with any other languages?

Knowing how to read and write Chinese characters will help you pick up written Japanese more quickly, since Japanese uses a large number of characters with exactly the same meaning, although the pronunciation and grammar is completely different.

Any prerequisites for this ?

None for level one program. For level two, a basic Chinese grammar or any related learning background is recommended. For those students enroll in LAC100 or LAC 200 course also welcome to join us.
