Year 11 Newsletter Issue 1

Chew Valley SchoolLearn Grow Achieve

Welcome to Chew Valley School’s Year 11 newsletter. We wanted to keep both parents/carers and students updated with everything that is going on at Chew Valley School, specifically for Year 11 students.

As a school we want to offer students as much help in the exam-preparation process as we can and included in this newsletter is a timetable of the sessions that are run by subjects on a weekly basis, both during lunchtimes and after school. Please remember that Mrs Martin’s after-school study club will start running again on Wednesday 6th February.

On the back of mock results all Year 11 students have been asked to fill out a ‘Making Mocks Matter’ booklet; using these they are to reflect on how they prepared for their mocks and to set themselves some targets going forward for the Summer exams. They have been told to complete these and bring them to parents’ evening as it would be useful for teachers and parents to discuss these targets with Year 11.

Introduction

Revision Tip!Get some sleep! Pulling an all-nighter (to

complete coursework or to revise) can cut your capacity to learn new things by 40% and research suggests it can take

up to four days for your brain to recover properly - so don’t do it! Make sure you go to bed at a reasonable time and don’t forget to reduce screen time an hour or

so before going to bed.

We are really pleased to have a voice in the first Year 11 newsletter! We have really enjoyed getting to know lots of new Year 11’s this year and are excited to see you through the important months ahead. From what we know of you as a year group, we are confident you will show the hard work, commitment and friendship that make you such a special group of young people. Please take all the advice you are given and work with us for the remainder of the year; we are all here to help you (as you can see by the amount of messages in this newsletter)!
