The training covers all aspects of Health & Safety and Legal & Data and ensures we keep ourselves, our colleagues and customers safe and legal.On joining Boots there is important compliance training to complete, found in your ‘courses I have to do’ on The Boots Academy. On completion there are a number of ‘compliance cycles’ throughout the year on The Boots Academy that top up your knowledge and skills and tests your understanding.

Core Skills are key to the success of the Customer Advisor role and the experience our customers receive. In addition to HUG, the Core Skills include Unique to Boots, Your Community Impact and Your Loss.

So that Customer Advisors can delight customers by providing brilliant advice, the Advanced Skills top up Knowledge and Skills across a wide variety of areas that include Baby & Mothercare, Cosmetics, Electrical Beauty, Food, Fragrance, Healthcare (more in-depth and regulated), No7, Photo, Skincare, Suncare, Wellness and In-Store Pick. Develop colleagues to become contact lens Opticians who, in addition to the duties of a dispensing Opticians, can:

• fit and provide aftercare for patients with contact lenses• assess whether contact lenses meet the needs of their patient, resolving

CAPABILITY OFFERPharmacyAn NVQ2 equivalent accredited programme which equips colleagues with the knowledge and skills required to sell medicines and dispense prescriptions safely and effectively. For Customer Assistants joining the healthcare team.

An accredited programme which provides detailed knowledge and develops colleagues’ healthcare skills, allowing them to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council. For Pharmacy Advisors wanting to progress their healthcare career.

This programme offers the opportunity for registered Pharmacy Technicians to step up into an accuracy checking role. It’s designed to build upon the existing Pharmacy Technician qualification by developing additional skills.

These enable colleagues to to talk confidently about products and services which meet a need, making us the choice for healthcare on the high street. Aimed at Pharmacy Advisors, but available to all healthcare team members including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

A regulated programme which provides colleagues with skills and knowledge needed to proactively provide healthy lifestyle advice to customers and patients. For Pharmacy Advisors in England (1 FTE per store).

Blended learning approach using experiential learning, tutor support and an online platform. Colleagues can find out more and register forthe programme on BootsLive.

Delivered though Buttercups as both a Boots funded programme and an apprenticeship programme (England only). CAPABILITY OFFERPharmacySupporting undergraduate pharmacy students, our placements provide them with invaluable experience of community pharmacy practice at Boots.

Supporting the transition from undergraduate to qualified Pharmacist, this programme meets the requirements of the General Pharmaceutical Council/Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland Scheme for registration, developing knowledge along with clinical and professional skills to become an effective professional.

This programme helps to bridge the gap between the pre-registration year and the first year qualified. It is designed to equip pharmacists with the tools to further develop their professional and leadership skills and grow their confidence as an autonomous professional.

Experiential/observational learning in stores, supported by workbooks, store-based Pharmacists and Healthcare Academy Trainers (HATs). Promoted through HATs at universities.

Blended learning, using a digital platform and portfolio, distance learning, store-based tutor support and face-to-face workshops supported by Healthcare Academy Trainers. Undergraduate pharmacy students apply though agreed national recruitment processes.

These events provide invaluable learning for our pharmacy professionals on current clinical and professional topics, as well as business priorities.

Although not training, the PPDF allows pharmacy professionals to access sponsorship for additional clinical training, allowing them to advance their professional career. Examples include training to become independent prescribers and specialist higher education courses.

CAPABILITY OFFERPharmacyAs the title suggests, this programme provides foundation learning which underpins the safe delivery of both Boots and commissioned services. It includes consultation skills, as well as practical aspects of injection techniques and basic life support.

½ day online learning and eTests, followed by a full-day workshop, led jointly by Boots Healthcare Academy Trainers and external experts. This must be repeated every three years. Places are booked via the Pharmacist Deployment Planners in line with triennial cycle.

PHARMACY SERVICE TRAINING

Supporting our continued service offer and building on our triennial Gateway requirements, this provides regular updates and knowledge refresh of basic life support techniques for pharmacy professionals providing services.

This enables our Pharmacists and pharmacy teams to provide a wide range of professional services. Each service has dedicated training materials which usually cover the clinical aspects of patient care, alongside the practical and professional aspects of providing the service.

As the health services across the UK provide increasing opportunities for pharmacy teams to provide patient-focused services, we offer guidance and support to ensure that colleagues feel confident and competent to deliver these.

Online learning and eTest. Added to colleagues’ Boots Academy plans automatically.
