Koko Signs APPLE

Koko makes a fist with thumb over fingers and taps her cheek with the

knuckle of her index finger.

ASL version: Fist with thumb and index

crooked into a tight C, and hand twisting twice.

Koko Signs ASK

Koko puts her hands and forearms together in front of her, with fingers straight

out from palm, pointing forward or upward.

ASL version: Forearms are not held together.

(The same sign is used for PRAY).

Koko Signs BABY

Koko crosses her arms over her stomach, with

open hands, palms turned inward. With one palm resting under the elbow of the opposite

arm (the other on top of the opposite arm) she pats her elbow two or

three times.

ASL version: Palms are turned upward,

and arms "rock" an imaginary baby.

Koko Signs BIRD

Koko makes a fist and pinches the side of her lower lip with the tip of her thumb and index

finger.

ASL version: Back of hand is held toward

mouth, and index and thumb come together a few times, simulating a

bird opening and closing its beak.

Koko Signs FRUIT

Koko touches her cheek with the tips of her thumb and index

finger while making an open fist.

Koko Signs GORILLA

Koko's fists alternately strike each side of her upper chest (i.e., chest

pounding).

Koko's hand forms a large "C" with all fingers.

Her fingertips and thumb touch the center of her chest , and move

downward towad her stomach.

Koko Signs JEALOUS

With Koko's little finger protruding from her fist, her fingertip touches the

corner of her closed mouth, as she twists her

hand.

Koko Signs SORRY

Koko places her fist in the middle of her chest

with her palm facing inward, then makes a

couple of short, downward brushes against her chest.

ASL version: The hand circles the chest instead

of brushing it.

Koko spreads the fingers on her right hand with the palm facing left.

She rests the bent elbow of her vertical

right arm on the back of the down-turned, open

left hand.

ASL version: Same as GSL, but add a twist of

the right wrist, simulating tree

"branches" moving in the wind.

Koko Signs UP

Koko's hand points up with her arm held

stretched above her head.

ASL version: Hand points up with the hand

held in front of the signer.

Koko holds her bent, open hands with the palms facing up

horizontally in front of her body, then pulls the arms inward toward

herself.
