    Do you think that you and your job are a good match?

    As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

    He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. Well, trainer said, when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, its enough to hold

    them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.

    The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldnt, they were stuck right where they were.

    Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

    Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.The Elephant Rope

    I meet many students and executives who strongly believe that chemistry is boring and PhD is extended boredom. Some obviously put it intelligently and advocate that for PhD you require a lot of patience. I am amazed to find that any subject can be made interesting if people are interested in it.

    In my book Cooks are many chefs are few I discussed some special qualities which differentiate a chef from a cook i.e. extra ordinary from average. One of these qualities is being interested in what you do. All successful people are interested in what they do. They make their job more interesting and suddenly it looks different. Whereas to others

    may find these jobs very boring.

    One recent example I would like to share with you is of Ambalika Khadria. She won the international Dance Your PhD contest in chemistry category for the year 2013.

    The Dance Your PhD competition is a unique contest where students across the world use interpretative dance to explain their research topics. They create and upload a video of the same with written explanation for the viewer.

    Students who feel that chemistry is boring; now have a reason to change their thoughts. Anything can

    be made interesting if we take interest. Everything is boring if we are not interested. So; it is the interest that makes all the difference.

    Process Orientation

    Cooks are many chefs are few. What creates the difference between these people? I agree that their education and investment do play a major role, but these are not the only reasons. Cooks cant produce same results repeatedly whereas chefs can. The major differentiator is process orientation. In Chefs case, every ingredient is measured properly, quality is standardized, timing is standardized and the recipe is also standardized. Therefore, he can produce any recipe any time as many times as you want. On

    the other hand cook can produce good results but cant be sure about being consistent as he largely depends on hunches and guess. In case the cook get sick, the other cook will not be able to produce the same result but in case of chef, a new chef can also produce the same recipe as they are working as per the process.

    Specialist salesperson understands the importance of making and adhering to the process of selling. Therefore, their results are much more consistent and they dont feel the anxiety as mediocre salesperson feel. They understand that selling

    is a process and to achieve consistent results one must adhere to the process of selling.

    Step Out From Your Comfort Zone

    We all want to achieve the great success in our lives but, are we really stretching ourselves to do something worthy? Most of the time we avoid things and activi-ties which makes us feel uncom-fortable, even if we know that the result of it is the best for us. It is very unfortunate that we avoid facing the challenges and wants to run from it into the other direc-tion i.e. our comfort zone where we feel safe and finds no risk. We hide ourselves from the lifes struggles, challenges and oppor-tunities and this is the biggest rea-son which limits our success.

    To make our life worthy, we need to get comfort-able with uncomfortable because if we can be comfortable with uncomfortable then well be prepared to handle any situa-tion whatever comes in our way and one of the best way to make our life worthy is to try something new. But for some people new is unfamiliar and unfamiliar is un-comfortable. So, willingly they trap themselves in a monotonous routine of 9 to 5. But, I believe feeling uncomfortable is a good thing which reflects that we are moving forward and exploring the newness in our life.

    Uncomfortable situation also prepare us to stay fo-cused on what we need to

    accomplish, despite the fact that how uncomfortable we feel. And if we continue to push ourselves to live out of our comfort zone, well soon learn how to get com-fortable with uncomfortable.

    Oh Yes! I know how to do this, Oh Yes! I have a plan many of use this state-ments often, because its all about how you plan your life and then going according to that plan. Life tastes different flavors at differ-ent phase of life a like being a student in school, in college, as an employee in organization, as a spouse and even as a parent. Hence, different plan at different stages where some goes well and some dont. However, there are many who just hit the bulls eye in their plan. Its amazing and feels like they were all sorted since their birth. They just follow the plan and make it big.

    And yes there are some people for whom this plan doesnt work. They lose their way and enter some-where else just for the sake of go-

    ing somewhere and then again get lost. Then somehow they get up again, figure out everything, and start from scratch with a different plan. But in the meanwhile they do not realize the biggest obstacle in their journey which is their age. This age becomes such a big thing that their own parents and closed ones start taunting and labelling them as a big failure. The point what I want to make here is ev-erybody is different and so every individual takes his/ her own time to understand what exactly their actual plan is. It is commendable if some get it right in the first go but those who take little bit more time, should be given more time as nobody has any right to label them. Why this age become such a big issue that people who take little more time, end up in do-ing what they dislike. The reason perhaps may be family pressure,

    societal pressure, peer pressure or self-doubt. Why cant we just give them a break so that they can figure it all out?
