BACKGROUNDWHO WE ARE

HISTORY AND PARTNERSHIPSWe have a 5 year history with Kagiso-Shanduka Trust. We had a major breakthrough when we developed the very first program in Olifantsvlei Primary School (Shanduka Primary School) in 2013. The interactive method that we developed in this school forms the basis of the newly developed Gr 1 Mathematics LTSM.

2014 - 2017: The input and feedback from KST, FSDoE, especially Mrs. Mpho Mosiane from the Motheo district, as well as the feedback from teachers, learners, coaches, trainers and even parents all laid the foundation for the Gr R, 1 & 2 Mathematics LTSM that we believe could impact numeracy in South Africa. We also received valuable input from Busisiwe Nkosi and district officials from GDE in 2017.

KST and FSDoE invested their valuable time and funding into BrainBoosters which gave us the opportunity we needed to find a nationwide solution. Both KST and FSDoE shared expertise knowledge and experience to ensure that what we offered would be a success for South African children. Their commitment and infectious passion for Early Childhood Development has been cemented into the Gr R, 1 & 2 Mathematics LTSM and has left behind a footprint into changing the lives of many children that will benefit from this. Both KST and FSDoE are part of the heart and soul that formed this groundbreaking foundation.

AIMS OF THE LTSMLEARNERSAims to:

• Help learners to master the basics of mathematics to ensure better mathematical skills in our country.

• Change the possibility of a bad experience when corrected to a positive one – this is the result of giving immediate feedback to a learner in a discreet and supportive way.

• Instill a love for mathematics and an ‘I can’ mentality to enable all learners (or at least a large majority) to engage fully with the CAPS curriculum, which should continue in later grades.

TEACHERSAims to:

• Give the joy of teaching back to teachers when they experience the improvement in learners’ involvement, attitude and skills.

• Help teachers identify and rectify learning problems immediately in a quick, easy and supportive way.

• Improve teacher preparation - the teaching materials are easy to use and CAPS aligned.

Learning about the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (1996)

The Constitution of South Africa (1996) is the highest law in the country. This law is higher than the President, higher than the courts and higher than the government.

It describes how the people of our country should treat each other, and what their rights and responsibilities are. The constitution of a country is there to protect all of us now, and our children in the future.

Be aware of our past.

Let us not repeat the mistakes of pas t.

Our Constitution helps us to imagine and build a better

future for all.

We, the people of South Africa;

Recognise the injustices of our past;

Respect those who have worked to build and develop our country; and

Believe that South Africa belongs to all who live in it, united in our diversity.

Each workshop attended is 5 CPTD Points.

If teachers are unable to attend the training they have several options to receive the training:

• They can access our Open Source Learning and Training Website: www.brainboostersacademy.co.za (none SACE accredited)

• They can use the USB, which has the training videos on them.

• We offer in-school refresher training by providing a TV screen with USB which includes all the videos of how to use the product at an additional price of R2500.

Dull parent evenings are transformed into joyous interactive events when we encourage parents to play like children during an ice-breaker (kicking balls, skipping etc). Parents then play any of the boardgames in the learner book during parent evenings.
