We looked at the minutes of the last meeting

to make sure they were right and to make

sure jobs had been done.

3. Feedback about the 5 priorities and the work

groups

Choice and Control

Lana said that the group of people who want to start their

own music group have got their first bit of money towards

setting it up and are appying for more.

The number of people wth a personal budget

is now 63%

Cllr Fahy asked how we make sure people are spending

their personal budgets wisely and had concerns about

how they are managed. Luke said that CLDT would know

the answers and they have a monitoring system in place.

Jobs to do and who will do them

budgets are monitored.

Health

Debbie said the Health Sub Group is still meeting once a

month getting ready for the joint health and social care

self assessment.

There have been 2 small check up events already and

there will be a Big Check Up Day for everyone on 8th

October 2013.

Cllr Fahy asked if members of the

Partnership Board have been invited

to the Health Watch launch on 12th September and if

anyone with a learning disability is on the Health Watch

committee.

Cllr Fahy suggested Alun looks at how Health Watch can

involve people with a learning disability.

Bernard said that Day Opportunities have been working

with Public Health to do some activities like chair exercise

and walks.

Jason said there was funding for a person to support GPs

with health checks but that person has now left. Jason said

service providers should be supporting people to go to the

GP. Alun has some ideas about how health checks can be

promoted.

Moving On

Carrie-Ann and John F had met to talk about their Moving

On plan.

The MPs held a Surgery at Charlton Park Academy on 10th

July. Carrie-Ann said the students had lots of questions

about what is out there for them.

Carrie-Ann told everyone about her idea for a Moving On

Forum just for young people to have their

say. Cllr Fahy said the idea for a Moving

On Forum was a good one.

Cllr Fahy also suggested an event to make people aware

of what opportunities there are for them.

Eleanor suggested working within schools.

Claire M said that the support planners have packs of

information about what is available that could be used.

Luke and Jason suggested that comments should be fed

into the Transition Board. There has been talk already at

the transition board about information packs being put

together.

Cllr Fahy suggested a group getting together to make a

plan in the next few months.

Jobs

Jason said the employment pilot group had met in the

summer to discuss how things were going. Luke had

asked members of the group to write down their thoughts

and ideas and send to him.

Jason also said that after the Transition Board away day

NDTi (National Development Team for Inclusion) held a

workshop to look at supporting young people into work.

One idea is supported internships.

Cllr Fahy talked about what GLLaB does. Gareth said that

GLLaB have very few vacancies for people with

disabilities. Anita is trying to organise a day with GLLaB to

offer “I’m a Person Too” training.

Jobs to do and who will do them

Housing

Building new homes

Karen did a housing activity at the Citizen Forum about

what people want their home to be like and sent the

feedback to John A.

At the MP Surgery at Charlton Park Academy students

also talked about their ideas for a dream home.

The Council will be building 6 flats in Plumstead. Jason will

be meeting with John A and John F to talk about who

should live there. Viridian will also be building 6 flats in

Abbeywood. All 12 flats should be ready in April 2015.

Benefits

Karen, Lorraine and Jason met in June to

look at how easy it was to get information

about benefits on the internet.

One website called United Response had made an easy

read booklet that Lorraine and Karen shared with the

Womens Group to find out what they thought.

Page 11: Learning Disability Partnership Board 5th September 2013 …€¦ ·  · 2015-02-18Cllr John Fahy Cabinet Member for AOPS Co-Chair Alice Francis Advocacy in Greenwich Debbie Hosten

11

Lorraine and Karen looked at some other websites and

said that the council and DWP websites were difficult to

use - too many words and no pictures.

There was one website that they thought was good:

www.moneysavingexpert.com/benefit-changes-2013

The council is looking at their website at the moment and

Bernard is looking at updating the accessible information.

The work at the Garden Project has been done and the

service users are looking forward to working with Hadlow

College.

At the carers meetings the focus has been on the closure

community.

The bids for the respite service have been put in, Sue and

Avril would like to be involved with the interviewing

process.

Sue said they continue to attend the Carers Centre Forum.

6. Future Plans

Greenwich Council and the local NHS

to say what they are doing to make

sure people are safe and that services are doing a good

job.

Jason and Alun sent back the questionnaires they had to

Jason has been working with Alun on an action plan that
