Overview:Learning as a Military and Government organizationThe difference in learning in military/civilian organizationsPast learning in our organizationPresent learningFuture learningGoals for learning

Can the Military be a Learning Organization?Tactics during wartimePolitical changesEconomic changesSocial-CultureTechnologyStrategically

Difference in military and civilian learning organizationsCivilian organization must continuously learn to stay ahead of the competition.

Military organizations must continuously learn to stay ahead of the enemy

The common ground is both must learn in order to survive.

Past Learning In the past 13 years our organization had to learn around Sept. 11Had to learn how to defend against an enemy on domestic soilLearned to put process in place if there is another attemptLearned to work with other DOD agencies to create one line of defense

Future LearningIn addition to a Homeland Security Mission, we also respond to natural disastersThe organization must be flexible and learn from each disaster in order to better respond to future disastersAll are unique and present different challenges for the response teamsIt is becoming more difficult to prepare the nation for the unique disasters

Future Learning Continued

Present LearningLearning to cope with budgets that are getting smallerWe have less resources and less people to provide the same national and domestic supportWe must continue to do more with lessMust learn the use of technology, chat rooms and secure VTC, and unmanned area vehicles as means to fight warsLearning to combat more cyber threats

Goals for LearningThe Thing that will bring this organization and other military organizations to its death is cyber threatsWithout technology we will not be able to survive, but it is our biggest threatOnce our systems are hacked, it becomes a matter of national securityWe must learn to be vigilant and stay ahead of those that want to bring down the government using cyber threats
