K-3 WITH MRS ROBINSON Wow! Term 2 already! Welcome back to all of our students and a very BIG welcome to our new student Jake. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are ready to fill those amazing brains with new knowledge. In our literacy sessions this term, we are looking at rhyming, personification and Australian animals. The students are thoroughly enjoying our current text “Blossom Possum” and have noticed how the names in the story match with the illustrations of the characters. Math this fortnight has been focussed on building number awareness with students participating in skip counting activities while completing fitness moves. The students are LOVING these videos and are also getting extra chances to move their bodies. I am looking forward to seeing the growth they all have over the next 8 weeks.

GARDENING The start of Term 2 has meant that all students have participated in gardening to get our school yard looking beautiful again. On Friday, students weeded and watered all of the plants in our school. The gardens are looking beautiful and the veggie patch is ready for new seeds.

TECHNOLOGY WITH MRS DAELMAN Welcome to Term 2 and what a busy term it’s going to be. The Technology/STEM lessons are well underway with all classes engaged in activities. The senior boys got to launch the rockets they created in Term 1; senior girls have started the wire/nail polish flowers for their fairy gardens. Year 4 students are learning interesting effects as they begin to make their Mushroom men. Starting with a small piece of wood for a base, a section of a pool noodle and a floor mat that has been moulded into a cap. A Youtube video has been made by a prop maker to show the students the techniques they will use as they progress with the Mushroom men. Step one was to use the hot glue gun and fasten the pool noodle to the timber base and then using the hot glue gun attach the cap to the top of the pool noodle. Kindy and Year 3 have been working on Mother’s Day Cards and I am sure the mums will be impressed with the cards. Year 2 have created some very interesting art using textas and a spray bottle of water. Results will be in the next newsletter.

Year 1 have been tower building. Once the tower was built the trick was to see how many blocks can be removed without the tower toppling.

NSW PREMIER’S SPORTING CHALLENGE The NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge encourages students and staff over a 10-week period to participate in a broad range of sports and recreational pursuits to develop their understanding of the importance of sport and physical activity. It is recommended students between the age of 5 – 18 years should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity every day. There will be awards of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond to aim for and will be presented to successful students at the end of the challenge. The whole school is participating in the challenge.

SCIENCE K/1/2/3 This term in science we will be covering a creativity unit on Robot Buddies. In this unit the students will design and build a robot using craft materials. They will learn about the properties of different materials and consider which materials they should use to build their robot. The students will practise and strive for accuracy as they design and build new objects and write instructions for others to follow. They will practise thinking creatively and imaginatively throughout the unit.

LIBRARY WITH MRS IRONFIELD The author we will be studying over the next few weeks is Margaret Wild, a much admired and award winning Australian author. The technology section of the library with dewey number 629 will be the area we will be concentrating on for the next fortnight. Please remember that library lessons and borrowing of resources will occur every Tuesday afternoon and we encourage all students to use a library bag or a recycled bag when borrowing.
