Principal’s ReportPrincipal’s ReportPrincipal’s Report

Congratulations to all Year 12 students who by now will have completed their HSC Examinations. It has been lovely to see the students come into the school after the completion of their last exam with smiles on their faces and taking the time to seek out staff and thank them for their assistance during their final year of schooling. We wish them all well as they await the much anticipated release of results mid-December.

Last week we received the initial advice of our funding for 2017. We are now in the process of finalising expenditure for 2016 and commencing our budget planning for 2017. Under the Resource Allocation Model of Funding, schools have much more autonomy in terms of allocation of funding to meet the needs of students at our school.

Recently we had four students selected to attend the University of Newcastle’s Girls’ Choices Summer School that will be held in December. Congratulations to Gabrielle Canellis, Roma Mani, Felicity Davis and Chloe Lasham. This is an amazing opportunity for these students and I trust they will gain a tremendous amount from the experience.

This week I was notified that Georgia Reddish was awarded with a Victor Chang Cardiac Institute Research Science Award for 2016. This award recognises excellence in Science achieved by Year 11 students. Congratulations Georgia.

Over the past couple of weeks we have had students participate in ‘Meet the Keeper’ at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, the Beef Bonanza in Sconce and the Year 8 Environmental Day at Red Hill. Thank you to the staff at Gulgong High School who continue to provide these amazing opportunities for our students.

Swae Howarth competed at St John's Baradine Horse Sports on the 21st October 2016. A fantastically run event, with 53 competitors from around the districts. With very humid conditions, and a young horse, Swae did well in her age group. Thank you to St Johns Baradine for a great day.

REMINDER

Students are required BY LAW to wear seat belts at all times when travelling on

school buses. Failure to comply may lead to suspension of school travel privileges.

Year 6 TransitionYear 6 TransitionYear 6 Transition

At transition this week, we had Science and Music. In Science, we had to build a machine using a scrubbing brush, a battery pack, and engine and a cork. When they were all put together we turned them on and they actually moved around.

In Music, we had a go at playing the guitars and drums which was a lot of fun.

The Gulgong GallopThe Gulgong GallopThe Gulgong Gallop———Picnics and Fashions on the FieldPicnics and Fashions on the FieldPicnics and Fashions on the Field

It was fantastic to see students involve themselves in the festivities of the Gulgong Gallop. Groups from

every year held fantastic picnics, inviting staff to try their special treats as they walked around to judge.

Afterwards, staff joined the students, having a very special lunch under the COLA. A big thank you to Mrs

Judy Woods and all of her helpers for a delightful meal.

After lunch, many students also hit the catwalk, entering the Fashions on the Field competition and

showing off their stylish attire. It was a fantastic luncheon and afternoon class resumed on schedule with

students responsibly heading back to their learning.
