JULY 7: BLESSED MARIA ROMERO MENESES Maria had 7 brothers and sisters. She was very smart and was a talented artist and musician; she played the piano ad violin. When she was 12 years old got really sick, and was sick for a whole year. While she was sick she, and those around her, asked Mary to ask God to heal her. God Performed a miracle and she got better. This miracle made Maria love God and his mother Mary very much, and she decided to become a sister with the Salesian order. In 1920, at 18 years old, she joined the “Daughters of Mary, Help of Christians”. In 1931 she went to Costa Rica and worked with many poor girls teaching them art and music and most importantly about God. Through her example, many girls also became nuns and served the poor with her. Register online at catholicfamilyconference.org or call 316-618-9787. Email questions to [email protected]. BREWING THE FAITH We hope you’ve had time to ask some of your lingering questions about faith, doctrine, and life in the Catholic Church. Join us on Friday evenings at 7:00pm this summer as Fr. Tatro answers some of these burning questions for you. We will meet in front of the rectory under the big shade trees - bring a lawn chair and a beverage of your choice. All ages and faith backgrounds are welcome and there’ll be opportunity for kids to play during the event. Check back here each week to see the coming topics!

July 12 topics: How should you spend your time in Eucharistic adoration, explain Christian prayer? Is it really more sacred than the Rosary?, What should we do for fallen away Catholic family/friends?, Why did Simon not carry the cross all the way with Jesus? Why can’t someone formally withdraw from the Catholic faith?

July 19 topics: KIDS NIGHT! We’ve had some great questions from kiddos in our question box, tonight we’ll be answering all of them. On the docket: knowing latin, holy water, why Adam gave dinosaurs complicated names, why doesn’t God kill the devil, and how you know you’re right.

DIOCESE OF WICHITA 2019 APOSTLE BUILD

Spring is finally here and it is time to spring into social action. This July we will unite with other Catholics sharing in the cost and manpower to build a Habitat for Humanity home for a family in need, Now is the time to catch spring fever, make a donation, sign up to work and pray for the success of this project. Construction begins July 18. Together we can make justice fully bloom! Volunteers, those 16 years and older, are needed to help build the house. The work days are Wednesday - Saturday 7:30am - 3:00 pm. If you are not comfortable building, how about providing lunch and snacks to our build volunteers? To volunteer your time please call Sheri Sherfield or Bonnie Toombs at 316-269-3935. TOTUS TUUS FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Each summer, a session of Totus Tuus for children with special needs is offered at the Spiritual Life Center. HOLY FATHER’S JULY INTENTION The Integrity of Justice: That those who administer justice may work with integrity, and that the injustice which prevails in the world may not have the last word. DAILY MASS/SACRAMENT SCHEDULE CHANGES THIS MONTH

• There will be no daily Mass on 7/12 and 7/15 -19 as Fr. Joe is out of town. • Anointing of the sick in July will be the weekend of July 20 and 21. JESUS APPOINTED SEVENTY-TWO … ... “others” (aside from the Twelve) to go ahead of Him to the places he intended to visit, for the “harvest is abundant but the laborers are few…” Who are these “others” He has sent forth? Are they qualified to do this work?? Of course they are!! Like you and I, they are missionary disciples, commissioned to take part in Jesus’ ministry. It doesn’t require special training — it simply requires having faith that God will give us what we need in order to complete the work. Notice Jesus tells the seventy-two to “carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals.” Instead, they (and we!) are to rely on God to lead and provide. Like the seventy-two, we have been “sent,” be it in our work places or in our social circles. We have all been tasked with living and sharing the Gospel in preparation for the abundant harvest!! BLOOD DRIVE St. John’s will be hosting another blood drive on July 21st starting at 9:00 am in the Parish Center. There is a signup sheet in the church gathering space or you can call the Church office to sign up for a time to donate. PARISH PICNIC - SAVE THE DATE This summer, our St. John’s Parish Picnic will be Saturday, July 27th at 6:30pm. Please save the date to celebrate our parish family this summer with food and games for all ages. If you are interested in helping with the picnic please contact the office and we will get you in touch with the ministry leader. Thanks!

NEW INSURANCE POLICY FOR PARISH CENTER Per our most recent inspection by Catholic Mutual, we will be implementing a new insurance policy for rental of the Parish Center effective August 1st. With the new policy, non-parish sponsored events will be required to purchase Special Events Coverage for $95 from Catholic Mutual in order to extend liability coverage. This will effect any rentals by parishioners for parties, showers, etc. as well as non-parish sponsored Catholic groups. For more information or questions about the new policy, please stop by or call the church office.

STEUBENVILLE DEPARTS THIS WEEK Later this week 31 of our parishioners will leave on a long 15+ hour bus ride through the night to Steubenville, Ohio to attend a youth conference at Franciscan University. I ask that you would keep our youth and their chaperones in your prayers as they travel and attend the conference. I thought I would share with you the theme of this year’s conference so you would have the context in which to pray for our youth and in turn our

whole parish.

The theme is BELONG, based on the scripture of 1 John 3:1 “ See what love the Father has bestowed on us, that we may be called children of God.” At the core of our being is a desire for meaningful connection and authentic relationship. We long to love and be loved, but often we feel lonely. We search for ways to escape feelings of isolation, and God whispers something that pierces our hearts, he says “You are never alone, you belong with Me”. This conference will focus on helping our young people encounter the God who calls us His sons and daughters. There will be a focus on different relationships in our lives, our relationship with God, our relationship with our friends, and our relationship with our family. Please pray for the young people & chaperones attending and for our entire parish, that we might have a renewed commitment to our core

relationships, with God and each other!
