The state of Faith

ਮੋਹ ਮਮਥਨ ਦੁਰੰਤ ਆਸਾ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਬਕਾਰ ॥ ਰਖੁ ਧਰਮ ਭਰਮ ਮਬਦਾਮਰ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਉਧਰੁ ਹਮਰ ਮਨਰੰਕਾਰ ॥੫॥ Emotional attachment is false, desire is

filthy, and longing is corrupt. Please,

preserve my faith, dispel these doubts from

my mind, and save me, O Formless Lord.

God Thoughts

The faithless cynic, the lover of Maya is

called Sakat in Gurbani.

ਸਾਕਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਵਮਹ ॥ The Sakat chase after Maya. 1029

3 qualities of Maya

Sato gun compassion,

contentment, humility,

tolerance, moral control

(WATER)

Tamo gun Sexual behavior, Anger,

Greed Attachment, Pride

(FIRE)

Rajo gun Hopes Wishes, Desires

Anxiety ,Worries (PAVAN)

ਮਨੁ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ॥ ਬਨ ਖੰਮਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਮਹ ਹੈਰਾਨਾ ॥ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਜਾਮਹ ਕਾਲ ਕੇ ਚਾਪੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਮਖ ਖੋਮਜ ਲਹੈ ਘਰੁ ਆਪੇ ॥੧॥

The mind of the Sakat is like a crazy

elephant. It wanders around the forest,

distracted by attachment to Maya. It goes

here and there, hounded by death. The

Gurmukh seeks, and finds his own home.

||1||415

ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਕਤ ਤੇ ਸੂਕਰ ਭਲਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਛਾ ਗਾਉ ॥ ਉਹੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਮਮਰ ਗਇਆ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਲੈਹੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧੪੩॥

Kabeer, even a pig is better

than the faithless cynic; at least

the pig keeps the village clean.

When the wretched, Sakat

dies, no one even mentions

his name. ||143||1372

ਰੂੜੋ ਮਜਹ ਬਮਸਓ ਮਰਦ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ ਉਆ ਕੀ ੜਾਮੜ ਮਮਟਤ ਮਬਨਸਾਹੀ ॥ ੜਾਮੜ ਕਰਤ ਸਾਕਤ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥ ਜੇਹ ਹੀਐ ਅਹੰਬੁਮਧ ਮਬਕਾਰਾ ॥ ੜਾੜਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਮਖ ੜਾਮੜ ਮਮਟਾਈ ॥ ਮਨਮਖ ਮਾਮਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਮਝਾਈ ॥੪੭॥ When the Beautiful Lord abides within the

heart, conflict is erased and ended. The

foolish, Sakat picks arguments -his heart is

filled with corruption and egotistical intellect.

RARRA: For the Gurmukh, conflict is

eliminated, O Nanak, in an instant through

the Teachings. ||47||

ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਮੇ ਰਮਮ ਰਹੀਐ ॥ ਸਾਕਤ ਮਸਉ ਭੂਮਲ ਨਹੀ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Remain absorbed in the Lord's Name,

Raam, Raam, Raam. Do not bother to speak

of it to the Sakat, even by mistake.

ਮਤਸ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਕਮਰ ਆਸ ਮਨ ਮਜਸ ਕਾ ਸਭਸੁ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ Place the hopes of your mind in the One, in

whom all have faith. 44

ਸਮਤਗੁਰ ਨਾਮ ੁਏਕ ਮਲਵ ਮਮਨ ਜਪੈ ਮਦਿੜ੍ਹੁ ਮਤਨ੍ਹ ਜਨ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਪੁ ਕਹੁ ਕਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥

Tell me, how can sin and suffering cling to

that humble being who chants the Naam,

given by the Guru, with single-minded love

and firm faith? 1398

ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ One who has faith in the Guru - everyone

has faith in him 1262

ਸਾਕਤ ਕਉ ਅੰਮਮਿਤ ਬਹੁ ਮਸੰਚਹੁ ਸਭ ਿਾਲ ਫੂਲ ਮਬਸੁਕਾਰੇ ॥ ਮਜਉ ਮਜਉ ਮਨਵਮਹ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਛੇਮੜ ਛੇਮੜ ਕਢੈ ਮਬਖੁ ਖਾਰੇ ॥੫॥ Tਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਤ ਸਾਧ ਮਮਮਲ ਰਹੀਐ ਗੁਣ ਬੋਲਮਹ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੇ ॥ਸੰਤੈ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਮਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਬਗਸੈ ਮਜਉ ਜਲ ਮਮਮਲ ਕਮਲ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੬॥ The Sakat may be totally drenched with ambrosial nectar, but even so, all his branches and flowers are filled with venom. The more one bows down in humility before the Sakat, the more he provokes, and stabs, and spits out his poison. ||5||

Remain with the Holy man, the Saint of the Saints, who chants the Lord's Praises for the benefit of all.

Meeting the Saint of Saints, the mind blossoms forth, like the lotus, exalted by obtaining the water. ||6||

ਸਾਕਤ ਨਮਰ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਮਤ ਮਕਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ How can the Sakat attain enlightened

awareness of the Shabad? 1042

ਪਿਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਾ ਭਇਆ ਮਬਸਾਸੁ ॥ ਜੀਉ ਮਪੰਿੁ ਸਭੁ ਮਤਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਮਸ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਉਪਜੀ ਪਰਤੀਮਤ॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹਾਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਜੀਮਤ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੧੮॥ I place my faith in my God. My soul and

body all belong to Him. This is the faith

which inspires Nanak: the self-willed

manmukhs will fail, while the Gurmukhs will

always win. ||4||16||18|| 867

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਮਹ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੯੫॥

O Fareed, if you will be mine, the whole

world will be yours". ||95||
