The Rittenhouse Square Committee volunteers have enthusiastically supported The Philadelphia Orchestra since the late Esther Klein and the late Esther Van Sant founded the Committee 60 years ago. Our main fundraising activity is the series of Lecture/Luncheons offered during the Orchestra season prior to 6 Friday afternoon concerts. Each Lecture/Luncheon consists of a lecture presentation followed by a celebrity guest and a catered luncheon. In the lecture segment we feature speakers who illuminate the music of the Orchestra’s forthcoming program. Our lecturers may be musicians, musicologists, or composers whose mission is to provide insight. They may use diverse means including lectures, demonstrations, excerpts, histories, and anecdotes.
Our celebrity guests may or may not belong to a category noted above, but they add interest and fun to the program.
The Lecture/Luncheons are held at the DoubleTree Hotel which is only a half-block from the Kimmel Center. Their catering staff is one of the most hospitable and accommodating in the city.
The lecture begins at 11:15 AM (doors open at 10:45) followed by a Celebrity Guest. At approximately 12:30 PM an elegant and full-course luncheon is served. We finish about 1:30 PM with ample time to walk to the Kimmel Center for the 2:00 PM concert. With the Lecture/Luncheon we have been musically and gastronomically nourished and entertained!
Groups of ten or more are invited to take advantage of our reduced rates for the Lecture/Luncheon and the 2:00 PM concert. Please see information on the order form.
