IP ratings refer to the level of protection a product has against solid objects, dust and contact with water. This is relevant to the enclosure not any connections made from it.

It is identified by a code of the letters IP followed by two digits.

The first digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts and ingress of solid foreign objects.

The second digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against harmful ingress of water.

IP RATINGS EXPLAINED

IP20 - Protected from medium sized objects (less than 12.5mm). No protection from water.

IP65 - Total protection from dust & Protected from water projected from a nozzle from any direction.

IP67 - Total protection from dust & Protected when immersed in water, down to 1 metre.

CUT POINTS

Where you have cut the strips you should use the end caps provided, with a small amount of silicone sealant, to reseal against ingress & retain the IP rating of the product.

Strips should only be cut at the cut points illustrated on the tape.

POWER REQUIREMENTS

The LED driver that you select is dependant upon the total length of LED strips that you need to power. Our colour coding system will ensure you select the correct voltage power supply but you will also need to consider your application to select the correct power (W). The guide below will help you.

SINGLE STRIP INSTALLATION

DRIVER POWER CALCULATION

1. Add up the watts/metre to get a total power. (e.g a 3m length at 4.8W/m is 14.4W total).

2. Choose the power. (in this instance, a driver is needed with a minimum of 14.4W but larger units are okay too so don’t worry if the next size up seems too powerful).

MULTI STRIP INSTALLATION

LED BINNING

Similar to choosing wallpaper and paint, LED’s can vary from batch to batch. PowerLED use a tight binning process to ensure consistency in LED colouring. If you are using several tapes in one installation ensure they are chosen from the same lot and tone identifier.

A wide variety of reliable, high-quality, solderless connectors to give you easy solutions for connecting LED Flexible Tapes, or terminating cut ends. Connecting your LED Flexible Tape is now quick and easy without the need to solder.

The connectors are available as tail cable, joining connector or wire to wire connector for multiple configuration options. Suitable for use with IP20 and IP65* 3528, 5050 & 2835. Suitable for single colour, RGB and RGB+W LED Tape (8mm, 10mm & 12mm).
