RULES & REGULATIONSVicious dogs are not eligible and must not be brought to the Show

Exhibitors are held responsible for any damage done by their dogs during the exhibition.

1 The Show will open at 7.00 a.m. daily. The gates to Harewood will not be open before 7.00 am.2 Dogs will be received at any time but it is the exhibitor’s responsibility to ensure that exhibits are available for judging

when required.3 Judging will commence 9.00 a.m. unless otherwise notified or published in “Our Dogs”.The start of judging will not be

delayed except in very exceptional circumstances.4 a Exhibits may be removed from the show after their judging has been completed.

b Exhibits may not be removed any earlier unless by written order of the Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Practitioneror of the Show Management and then only in very exceptional and unforeseen circumstances which must bereported to the Kennel Club.

c The show will close half an hour after all judging has been completed by which time dogs must be removed.5 Entry fee for each exhibit is £26.00 (inc.VAT) for the first entry and £5.00 for each subsequent entry with the same

exhibit. Where no CC’s are on offer the entry fee for each exhibit is £14.00 (inc. VAT) for the first entry and £5.00 foreach subsequent entry with the same exhibit. Stakes Classes: £16.00 as a first entry; £5.00 as a subsequent entry.The entry fee for a dog entered “Not for Competition” is £10.00 (inc. VAT). Dogs may be entered Not ForCompetition on any day of the show (and a bench will be provided) for £10.00 per day. There is NO PROVISIONFOR UNENTERED DOGS at this Show. Entry fees will not be refunded once an entry has been made. Entriesmay be made online at www.dog.biz.

6 No Prize Money will be awarded other than that detailed in Stakes Classes.7 The Committee reserves to itself the right to refuse entries.8 Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the Show are not eligible for exhibition, ie born on or

after 27th Jan 2018.9 The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden.

10 Best Puppy in ShowWhere a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed andhas been declared Best Puppy in Breed, Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified Puppy or Best Any VarietyImported Breed Register Puppy. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on thefirst day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, Best in Group or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically beawarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Similarly, if the Reserve Best ofBreed, Reserve Best of Group or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog itshould also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively.Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed, Best in Group and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection ofBest of Breed and Best in Show respectively.(a) Shows Judged on the Group System

11 Best in ShowThe dog declared Best in Show is a dog which has competed and has been declared Best of Breed, Best AnyVariety Not Separately Classified or Best Any Variety Imported Breed Register.(a) Shows Judged on the Group System

(1) Best of BreedWhere a breed is separately classified a Best of Breed may be declared but only from those dogs whichhave received a first prize in a breed class at the show. Where separate classes are provided for each sexof a breed a Best of each Sex must be declared.NOTE:The Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified/ Best Any Variety Imported BreedRegister award relevant to a Category 3 Breed will not be confirmed until the dog has passed anexamination by the General and Group Championship Show Veterinary Surgeon.

(2) Best of GroupBest of Group and subsequent Group placings must be selected from:-(a) The Best of Breed winners in each group

(b) The dog declared Best from Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each Group or on eachday.

(c) The dog declared Best from Any Variety Imported Breed Register class or classes in each Group or oneach day.

NOTE: The dog declared Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified/ Best Any VarietyImported Breed Register from a breed designated by the Kennel Club as a Category 3 Breed is not eligibleto compete in the Group competition unless it has passed an examination by the Show’s VeterinarySurgeon. If the dog fails to pass the examination it is ineligible to compete in the relevant Group.

(3) Best in ShowBest in Show must be selected from the Best of Group winners. Reserve Best in Show must be selectedfrom the remaining Group winners following the selection of Best in Show.

(b) Shows Not Judged on the Group SystemBest in ShowBest in Show and subsequent placings must be selected from:(a) Those dogs declared Best of Breed.(b) The dog declared Best from Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each Group or on each day.(c) The dog declared Best from Any Variety Imported Breeds Register class or classes in each Group or on

each day.12 Exhibits will not be admitted to Group or Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the

announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previousjudging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management.

13 Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them nor handle a dog in a manner whichcauses its feet not to touch the ground when on the move. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that suchpractice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under KennelClub Show Regulation F11.

14 All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B): Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs forExhibition.

15 All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to theshow can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to theexhibitor/competitor.

16 Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days: Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take allreasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at riskby any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of the Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referredto the Board for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations.Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guideyou through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at Kennel Club licensed events.• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday

route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available

to drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.• Keep the dog in the shade — take your own shade, for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of

water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time.Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to direresults. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK, FORCIBLEENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED.

17 Not For Competition. Not for competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recordedon the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. Dogs aged four calendar months and over will beaccepted Not For Competition (see page 6).

18 No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club,which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.

19 Best Veteran in Breed can only be selected from the winners of the Veteran class.21 Every exhibitor making an entry or entries at or for this Show shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by the Kennel

Club Limited Rules and Show Regulations and by these regulations, and it is on this understanding only that entriesare accepted.

22 Entries will be accepted provided they bear a GPO postmark not later than Saturday 30th June, 2018 and should bemade on the forms enclosed for that purpose. IN YOUR OWN INTEREST USE FIRST CLASS MAIL.

23 If acknowledgement of entries is required, an addressed stamped postcard should be enclosed for the Secretary’ssignature.

25 Exhibits Only Allowed. No animal other than dogs duly entered for the Show will be allowed within the precincts ofthe Show during its continuance. There is NO PROVISION FOR UNENTERED DOGS other than NOT FORCOMPETITION and SPECTATOR dogs. To enter NOT FOR COMPETITION complete an entry form with the fulldetails and send to the printer with a fee of £10. To enter SPECTATOR dogs an entry form/record slip must becompleted at the entrance to the show (no bench provided), cost £10 per dog.

24 The Committee is empowered to exclude or remove any dog which in the opinion of a Veterinary Surgeon of theShow is not in a fit state for exhibition owing to disease, vice or any other cause.

25 A dog pass will be issued for each dog entered.

26 The Catalogue will contain the owners’ names in each breed in alphabetical order, with their dogs in numerical order.All breeds will be benched in catalogue order. No bench numbers shall be changed from one pen to another, and nodog shall be benched on any but its own numbered pen. Under no circumstances may partitions between dogs beremoved (Vide Kennel Club Show Regulation F (1)5(c).

27 Admission by car park fee £3.00 on entry form £5.00 on the day. Spectator dogs £10.0028 Dogs must be present on their benches at all times except when (a) when being judged (b) when being prepared for

exhibition and/or being exercised for a period of not exceeding 30 minutes. Dogs may be removed from theirbenches by order of the Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Practitioner or Show Management.

29 Gangways must be kept clear at all times.30 Safety Officer. A Safety Officer will be in attendance throughout the show. Exhibitors and spectators are reminded

that just as Leeds City & District Canine Association has a responsibility to ensure the health and safety of all thoseattending their event, all those present have a duty and responsibility for their own safety. They are thereforeexpected to take the greatest care to avoid guy ropes, uneven surfaces and other hazards which are inevitable andintegral elements of a dog show. Those bringing and using portable items of equipment such as folding chairs,trolleys, cages and grooming tables also have a responsibility to ensure that their tools, equipment and collapsiblefurniture are used and erected safely and does not constitute a hazard to others. Exhibitors are also reminded thatthey should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the prevailing conditions on the site. Exhibitors show at theirown risk if conditions are not ideal.

31 Should any judge be prevented from fulfilling his or her engagement the Committee reserve to themselves the rightof appointing another in his or her place. Exhibitors may withdraw from competition subject to Kennel Club ShowRegulation F(1)20(b) but no entry fees will be refunded.

32 Judges are empowered to withhold the prize or prizes in any class if, in their opinion, the dog or dogs exhibited lacksufficient merit. Judges are not empowered to give prizes other than those offered in the Schedule.

33 Safety Of Dogs. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of the dogs brought for exhibition, orany other property entrusted to them, but it must be understood by exhibitors and all other persons that theCommittee will not be responsible for the loss, detention of, or damage to any dogs or other property whether arisingfrom accident or from any other cause whatever, or from any act or omission of itself, its officers, agents, servants orothers, or damage done by the exhibits to any person or property.

34 Judging of Classes and Best in Show. All reasonable steps will be taken to warn exhibitors of the judging ofVariety Classes, Groups and Best in Show, but the Committee cannot be held responsible for absentees from thecompetitions. The Committee reserve the right to make any alterations or additions due to unforeseencircumstances which will be published in the DOG PRESS if time permits. It remains the exhibitors responsibility tobe present in the ring when required.

35 The Committee of the Kennel Club shall be the final court of appeal or umpire in all questions or disputes of any kindwhatsoever (except where such powers are delegated by the Committee of the Kennel Club) arising out of KennelClub Limited Rules and Regulations. A person attending to or entering a dog for any Show shall, by such act, bedeemed to have agreed with the Committee of the Kennel Club or delegated authority to refer any such question ordispute to the Committee or delegated authority as the case may be, under the provisions of the Arbitration Act, 1889,or any statutory modification thereof.

36 All announcements prior to the date of closing of entries in the “Kennel Gazette”, “Our Dogs” or otherwise brought tothe attention of the exhibitor more than 24 hours before commencement of judging of any alteration or addition madein the schedule or in these regulations shall be deemed sufficient notice thereof.

37 Cancellation or Abandonment: Entry fees will not be refunded in any circumstance where any act of God or anyother unforeseen reason causes the cancellation or abandonment of the show after entries have closed.

DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES(Vide Kennel Club Regulations for Definitions of Classes)

PUPPIES UNDER SIX CALENDAR MONTHS OF AGE ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SHOW ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR EXHIBITIONN.B.-The word “dog” includes both sexes

In the following definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title ofChampion under the Rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club.

Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted aswins at Open Shows.

In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in Members’ classes or competing for Members’ Specialseach partner must at the time of entry be a member of the Society.

In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh day before the date of closing ofpostal entries shall be counted when entering for any class i.e. 23rd June 2018.

Wins in Variety classes do not count for entry in Breed classes but when entering in Variety classes, wins in bothBreed and Variety classes must be counted. A first prize does not include a Special Prize of whatever value.

If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, theexhibitor may choose one of the following options:-(1) Withdrawal

The dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of Regulation 20.(2) Transfer

a. If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its breed, colour, sex, weight or height the ShowSecretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or heightor, in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted, to the Open class for thecorrect breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

b. For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy class, Puppy class or Junior Class, which is over age butunder twelve calendar months of age, eighteen calendar months of age or 24 calendar months of agerespectively, the Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy class, Junior class or Yearling Classrespectively for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being no Puppy, Junioror Yearling Class to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

c. For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open class for the correctbreed, colour, sex, weight or height.

d. If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dog maynot be transferred to any other class.

MINOR PUPPY—For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.PUPPY—For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.JUNIOR—For dogs of six and not exceeding eighteen calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.YEARLING—For dogs of twelve months and not exceeding two years of age on the first day of the Show.NOVICE—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or three or more First Prizes at an Open or

Championship Shows (Minor Puppy, Special Minor Puppy, Puppy and Special Puppy Classes excepted, whetherrestricted or not).

GRADUATE—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or four or more First Prizes at ChampionshipShows in Graduate, Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open classes, whether restricted or not, whereChallenge Certificates were offered for the breed.

POST GRADUATE—For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or five or more First Prizes at ChampionshipShows in Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open classes, whether restricted or not, where ChallengeCertificates were offered for the breed.

MID LIMIT—For dogs which have not become Show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules ofany governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won 3 or more CACIB/CAC/Green Stars or won five or moreFirst Prizes in all at Championship Shows in Mid Limit, Limit or Open Classes, confined to the breed, whetherrestricted or not, at shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the Breed.

LIMIT—For dogs which have not become Show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of anygoverning body recognised by the Kennel Club or won 3 or more CACIB/CAC/Green Stars or won seven or moreFirst Prizes in all, at Championship Shows in Limit or Open Classes, confined to the Breed, whether restricted or not,at Shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the Breed.

OPEN—For all dogs of the breeds for which the class is provided and eligible for entry at the show.SPECIAL BEGINNERS—For owner, handler or exhibit not having won a Challenge Certificate or Reserve Challenge

Certificate, or for those breeds not allocated Championship Status, Best of Sex or Reserve Best of Sex at aChampionship Show.

SPECIAL OPEN—Similar to Open Class except that it is restricted as to weight, colour, height or to members of anAssociation.

VETERAN—For dogs over seven years of age on the first day of the Show.SPECIAL CHAMPIONS CLASS—For dogs which have been confirmed a Champion, Show Champion or Field Trial

Champion.IMPORTED BREED REGISTER—For breeds confined to the Imported Breeds Register and only when an Interim

Breed Standard has been published by the Kennel Club. Such breeds may be exhibited in this class only, with thewinning dog being eligible for Best in Group / Best Puppy in Group or Best in Show / Best Puppy in Show as relevant.

ANY VARIETY NOT SEPARATELY CLASSIFIED—For breeds of dog for which no separate breed classes arescheduled.

NOT FOR COMPETITION—Societies may at their discretion, accept Not for Competition entries. Societies may acceptsuch entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than oneday, such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed. Regulation F.1.c: Only dogs of six calendarmonths of age and over on the first day of the show are eligible for exhibition at Kennel Club icensed shows.However societies may accept Not for Competition entries at their discretion and dogs aged four calendar monthsof age and over are eligible to enter Not for Competition at all Kennel Club licensed shows. Futhermore, dogs agedfour calendar months and over are eligible to enter Match Competitions.

YKC STAKES—Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entryinto a YKC qualifying stakes class. Dogs must be on the Kennel Club Breed Register to compete in a YKC stakescompetition. The first placed member only in each dog group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosettewill be awarded. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. All pedigreedogs are eligible to take part provided the dog is registered on the Kennel Club Breed Register. The dog must beregistered a) solely or jointly in the member’s name or b) in the name of a close member of the family (i.e. a group ofpeople related by blood or by marriage) and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKCmember’s address. No substitute handlers are permitted — the dog must be handled by the registered YKCmember. Members are not permitted to allow another individual to show their dog at the qualifier on their behalf ifthey are not able to attend the class, unless agreed by the YKC Office prior to the show. Members must be aged 6- 24 years (members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKCterminates on a member’s 25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Cruftsthey will be unable to compete in any YKC class. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout thecompeting year. In order to enter any YKC competition you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry andcompetition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any awardwill be forfeited Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish toparticipate in YKC competitions.

YKC HANDLING CLASSES—Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition areeligible for entry into an YKC qualifying class. Classes for handling are decided by the handler’s age. The classesare divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday); 12-17 years (12

years and up to, but not including 18th birthday); 18-24 years (18 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday).Please enter the class age category you will be on the day of the qualifier. If you should move into the next agerange after you have already qualified, the YKC will invite you into the correct age group at Crufts.The method for Crufts qualification is a points based system as follows: 1st Place = 30 points; 2nd Place = 15points; 3rd Place = 10 points. Members will receive points per group (i.e. if they handle a bloodhound, they will getpoints towards the Hound group). If a member gets 30 points in any one group, they will qualify to enter a dog fromthat group at Crufts 2019. If a member gains 30 or more points in multiple groups, they may only compete with onedog at Crufts, but they will have the option to choose from any of the groups they have 30 or more points in. Allpoints are reset to 0 on 1st January each year. In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid upmember at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid yourmembership fee then any award will be forfeited. KENNEL CLUB BREEDERS’ COMPETITION—Each team will consist of a minimum of three and maximum of fourdogs of one breed, all bred by the same breeder or breeding partnership. The breeder enters the class and thenarranges which dogs are exhibited on the day of the show. Please clearly state the name and affix of the registeredbreeder(s). Entries will not be taken on the day of the show. Teams will be awarded points/prize money in the KCBreeders’ Competition as follows: Points 1st; 30; 2nd 15; 3rd 10; 4th 5. Prize Money 1st Non ABS Prize Fund £20;ABS Prize Fund £25. Please note that Assured Breeders will be credited with a higher prize value. These points willbe recorded in the Kennel Club Breeders Competition record book through the year. The minimum qualification forthe Crufts final will be 50 points, with a maximum of 40 finalists including the winning teams from the European andWorld Dog Shows’ breeders competition. Our Dogs will collate the points and publish a leader board through the year.

ANY VARIETY GOOD CITIZEN — For dogs which have achieved their Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze awardcertificate or above.

REGULATIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DOGS FOR EXHIBITION F (ANNEX B)1 These Regulations must be observed when a dog is prepared for exhibition and/or exhibited at any Kennel Club

Licensed event. Objections may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under these ShowRegulations and/or for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rule A42.(a) A dog found to have been exhibited in breach of these Regulations will automatically be disqualified from

exhibition at the show and from any award gained thereat.(b) Unless the exhibitor provides a satisfactory explanation for the dog being exhibited in breach of these

Regulations then he/she may be subject to further penalties of either a fine or as listed under Rule 42.2 (a) No substance which alters the natural colour, texture or body of the coat may be present in the dog’s coat for

any purpose at any time during the Show. No substance which alters the natural colour of any external part ofthe dog may be present on the dog for any purpose at any time during the Show.

(b) Any other substance (other than water) which may be used in the preparation of a dog for exhibition must notbe allowed to remain in the coat or on any other part of the dog at the time of exhibition.

3 No act or operation which alters the natural conformation of a dog or any part thereof may be performed except:(a) Operations certified to the satisfaction of the General Committee.(b) The removal of dewclaws of any breed.(c) Operations to prevent breeding, provided that such operations are notified to the Kennel Club before neutered

dogs are shown.Nor must anything be done calculated to in the opinion of the General Committee to deceive.

4 The General Committee without previous notice may order an examination of any dog or dogs at any Show. Anyexamination thus ordered will be made by a person having executive authority who shall have a written directivefrom the Kennel Club in their possession. Samples may be taken for further examination and analysis.

5 An individual has the right to lodge an objection to a dog only if he/she is the owner or handler of a dog competingin the same breed or class, an objection may, however, be lodged by an official of the Show or by anyone sodeputed by the Kennel Club. It will be the responsibility of the individual who lodges the objection or the official (asappropriate) to substantiate the grounds for the objection. The Kennel Club will substantiate the grounds for anobjection made on its behalf.

6 Any objection by an individual related to an infringement of these Regulations must be made in writing to the ShowSecretary at his/her office before the close of the Show and the individual must produce evidence of identity at thetime of lodging the complaint.
