LEEDS HAS A LONG HISTORY OF SPORTING EXCELLENCE, FROM HOSTING SOME OF THE FIRST CALCUTTA CUP

GAMES AT HEADINGLEY STADIUM TO LAST YEAR’S GRAND DÉPART OF THE 2014 TOUR DE FRANCE.

LEEDS, A HOST CITY

This year, Leeds has been selected as one of the Host Cities for Rugby World Cup 2015, continuing the tradition of hosting world-class major sporting events. This will see Elland Road, home of Leeds United FC,

welcome a different breed of international sport stars, as Rugby Union takes over for one weekend in September.

Leeds will host two matches during the tournament in September 2015; Italy will take on Canada in the first ever international Rugby Union

match at Elland Road, before Scotland play the USA. The results of both matches will have an impact on which teams make it through to the

knock-out stages and are set to be nail-bitingly exciting.

LEEDS HAS ALWAYS BEEN HELD IN HIGH-ESTEEM IN THE FOOD AND DRINK REALM, BUT IN RECENT YEARS THE

CITY HAS REALLY COME INTO ITS OWN AND BECOME AN EMERGING FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH.

TRULY FOODIE

It’s the innovative independents and burgeoning street food scene which is really making Leeds stand out, which sit alongside the gastronomic stalwarts meaning there’s

something for everyone.

If it’s pre-match Indian street food and craft beer you fancy, or a gourmet steak and delicious wine to celebrate your team’s success, there’s something for everyone and every occasion

with the array of restaurants on offer in Leeds.

The city also has a whole host of world cuisine on offer, from the award winning Café Moor in Kirkgate Market, which sells

some of the best authentic Middle Eastern food, and fresh Asian flavours (served sizzling!) at Teppan 260 to traditional

Indian cuisine served at family owned Akbars.

Last but not least, Leeds is home to an abundance of proper English pubs and an extensive range of locally brewed craft

beers, but there’s more on that later...

WHILE YOU’RE IN LEEDS, WHY NOT MAKE THE MOST OF THE CULTURE THAT ABOUNDS IN THE CITY; FROM

ART GALLERIES AND THEATRES TO FASCINATING MUSEUMS, WE’VE GOT IT ALL, AND TO TOP IT OFF,

MOST OF OUR ATTRACTIONS ARE FREE!

TRULY CULTURAL

There’s culture galore in the heart of Leeds, and with such a compact city centre, many of these attractions are within walking distance,

meaning you can pack in several cultural experiences in one day, or even one afternoon.

The Cultural Quarter to the North of the city is a great place to start; Leeds Art Gallery, the Henry Moore Institute and Leeds City Museum

are all located here. Leeds Art Gallery has been described by The Times as the best collection outside London and will also host British Art Show 8 in October 2015. The Henry Moore Institute on the other hand is part of the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle, which is the largest

sculpture collection in Europe, across three venues in Yorkshire.

It’s also worth wandering to the south of the city to Leeds Dock where you’ll find the Royal Armouries and can discover Henry VIII’s original armour and weapons and marvel at the remainder of the collection,

which is the largest collection of arms, armour and artillery in the UK, which culminates in the epic Hall of Steel.

Evenings can be quickly filled with great theatre, as Leeds is home to four major theatres and is proud to be one of the only cities outside

London with its own reparatory theatre, opera and ballet companies, all of whom have extensive programmes throughout the year, with

shows including Northern Ballet’s Romeo & Juliet and West Yorkshire Playhouse’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

FROM HISTORICAL RUINS AND ONE OF THE TREASURE HOUSES OF ENGLAND TO MORE LISTED BUILDINGS THAN ANY CITY IN THE UK OUTSIDE LONDON, LEEDS IS FILLED

WITH BUILT HERITAGE WHICH IS SURE TO INSPIRE.

TRULY HERITAGE

If you’re looking for a slice of true British history, then you need look no further than Leeds; the city has plenty to offer

with a number of nearby historic houses, including Harewood House and Temple Newsam, as well as Kirkstall Abbey, one of

the most complete medieval Cistercian abbeys in the UK.

Harewood House is one of the Treasure Houses of England and, at just fifteen minutes from the city centre, it’s well worth

a visit. With a diverse art collection, including originals by Turner, as well as royal connections and extensive grounds

and gardens, which includes an exotic bird garden, Harewood House is a stunning example of British history.

The wider county of Yorkshire, as well as the city of Leeds, has provided inspiration for a great many British literary icons. The Bronte sisters lived in Yorkshire, and the dramatic landscapes inspired Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights; Haworth and the Bronte parsonage is open to the public and is approximately

45 minutes from Leeds, so makes an ideal morning or afternoon excursion when staying in the city.

AS THE UNOFFICIAL CAPITAL OF YORKSHIRE, LEEDS IS THE GATEWAY TO THE NORTH AND IS EXCEPTIONALLY

WELL CONNECTED, MAKING IT THE PERFECT BASE FROM WHICH TO EXPLORE THE INCREDIBLE COUNTRYSIDE.

TRULY OUTDOORS

Just twenty minutes by car from the centre of Leeds and you’re in the Yorkshire Dales National Park - one of the

UK’s largest National Parks, here you’ll find a rich cultural heritage, as well as spectacular natural landscapes,

which are perfect for walking, hiking and cycling.

The North Yorkshire Moors is another of the UK’s National Parks and is just under an hour from Leeds. The North Yorkshire Moors also comprises the Yorkshire coastline on the East of the UK, which is made up of 45 miles of beautiful beaches, dramatic cliffs and quaint seaside

towns and villages.

While spending some time in Leeds, why not hop on a train and in just twenty minutes find yourself in the heart of York. York is an ancient walled city, filled with history,

cobbled streets and the show-stopping York Minster, which makes for a perfect day trip from Leeds.

Manchester and Liverpool are also close to Leeds and easily accessed by train or car for a taste of the UK’s

other northern cities.

MEDALISTS, PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAMS AND AMATEUR SPORTING ENTHUSIASTS TO KNOW WE MEAN IT.

MADLY PASSIONATE

Leeds recently staged the start-line for the world’s greatest cycle race, the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, which saw millions

flood the streets to cheer the world-class teams and famous names as they charged off from outside Leeds Town Hall.

Headingley Stadium, is not only famed for its Rugby League and Union teams, but is one of the world’s best known cricket

stadiums. It’s been the backdrop for key moments across cricketing history, from hosting its first Ashes test match in 1899, to Don Bradman’s famous score of 309 in one day’s play in 1930 and Geoff Boycott’s hundredth first-class century scored during

1977’s Ashes test.

2015 will see more international cricket action gracing the hallowed wicket of Headingley; the 2nd Test match, England v

New Zealand, in May 2015 and the 4th One-Day International in September 2015, where England will take on Australia.

Leeds is also home to Leeds United FC, which was formed in 1919 and is traditionally one of the largest clubs in the UK

football, drawing large crowds of loyal fans to home and away games alike.

1,000 shops in the city centre, all within walking distance, which makes shopping here a wonderfully diverse and

memorable experience which caters to every taste.

Trinity Leeds is the city’s newest retail and leisure destination, home to over 120 of your favourite high-street shops, restaurants and bars, as well as the impressive 15
