IAC – The Film & Video Institute is an umbrella organisation supporting amateur movie-makers, whether they work individually or as part of a club or larger organisation. We negotiate copyright clearance for the use of music, provide guidance, training, constructive feedback and the opportunity to mix with other film-makers through our network of local clubs and regional bodies in the UK. More especially, we provide a showcase for the work of amateurs, through local clubs, regions and the British International Amateur Film Festival. To fulfill our remit as an educational charity, we are very keen to encourage young people in the field of filmmaking, especially those who work independently without external funding. This is our reason for sponsoring a prize as part of NYFA.

8th National Young Filmmakers’ AwardOnce again we are proud to present the NYFA, where we showcase the best short films made by young filmmakers from across the UK. The First Movie HPPH, 7pmAn innovative ‘magic realist’ documentary set in Iraq. Filmmaker Mark Cousins, who was brought up in a Northern Irish war zone, travels to a Kurdish-Iraqi village and tries to make a dream film about a place that is normally only portrayed in current affairs programmes.
