LEGALIZING DRUGS Andrés Villacís Schedule: 12 to 14 Through time, legalization drugs have been one of the most controversial topics among different groups of people and cultures. Some countries in Europe and several states in United States have taken the initiative in order to reduce drug trafficking and help to some people’s health issues. It could work fine in countries in which education has an important role on society but it can become a potential hazard in countries where users are not completely aware of the real problems about drugs. Everybody has freedom to choose whatever they want to do with their bodies. People should be able to take decisions about taking drugs as long as they know the effects caused by drugs because there are many people who take drugs that not know the short or long effects. Sometimes it is just for fun or experience new sensations or reduces pain but it doesn’t mean they are addicted. Despite of the use, people must know the effects of drugs. Legalizing drugs can help to make more “secure” drugs. Lots of people have died due to a wrong amount of chemical reagents in drugs which were made by someone with no experience. That occurred during Electric Daisy Carnival and many other music festivals last year with the nowadays well known Molly. Laws can allow to experienced laboratories to do drugs quality control. A good idea would be to analyze what the effects have been on societies with legalized drugs. Governments necessarily have to do a comparison between before and after legalizing drugs in order to determine how could react a country and take care vulnerable groups of people.

Legalization drugs are not an easy point to discuss. However, it is necessary a framework to legalize or not drugs in a specific country even though many groups want legalization. Some aspects as poverty index or education level should be taken before making desertions because each country is not prepared to face this very big responsibility.
