The return of the school year can bring increased stress and anxiety to parents and children. The following strategies can help ease the back-to-school transition. Adjust Sleep Schedules – At least one week prior to the first day of school, begin gradually adjusting to earlier bedtime and wake-up schedules. Stimulate the Learning Process – Take advantage of educational opportunities with your child, such as reading books, visiting museums, taking nature hikes, and playing board games. Stimulate the learning process by asking your child questions about your experiences. Plan Meals – Begin collecting recipes for nutritious meals that are fast and easy to prepare. Stock your freeze and pantry with staple items. If possible, prepare and freeze a few meals in advance. Address Health Issues – Schedule medical and dental health check-ups and obtain necessary immunization and health records. Mark Your Calendar – Review school schedules and make note of important events, such as registration, orientation, back-to-school night, and school holidays. Make necessary arrangements for participation and childcare. Attend Back-to-School Events – Participate in orientation and back-to-school night for opportunities to tour classrooms, meet teachers and other parents, and discuss expectations and concerns you and your child may have about school. Enjoy Family Time – Finally, get out there and enjoy the remaining weeks of summer break relaxing and making family memories. will also allow time for questions and a few stories.Bill is the last of a dying breed. He entered the field of forensic science when a degree was

not required and there was very little interest. Those two things have surely changed over the past 20 years. Bill now holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Public Administration.

In 1996 Bill accepted a position as the Identification Manager of the Austin Police Department, of which he was responsible for the Crime Scene, Crime Records, and Latent Print Sections. In 2002 he was promoted to Forensic Science Services Manager and is responsible for a 65 employee crime lab with a $6 million annual budget. He has been responsible for migrating to a new laboratory and bringing ASCLD Laboratory Accreditation to that laboratory.

Hope to see you all at this most interesting version of “CSI Austin”.

Stop the Scum! You may have noticed a floating layer of cloudy scum in the deep end of the pool recently.

This "scum" is sunscreen that washes off if it's not given a chance to soak into your skin. The pool maintenance company is working on a solution, and the lifeguards are skimming the deep end every half hour, but you can help out too. Please apply sunscreen 20 minutes before entering the pool. Your sunscreen will work better, and it won't wash off and cloud our pool.

The site address is www.legendoaks2.org, and currently contains association information, including contacts with phone numbers and email addresses, links to the PDF versions of the newsletters, and an events calendar and classified section where members can post happenings and items for sale, rent, or trade. Overwhelmed by email? It seems to be a common problem, and there is quite a lot to say about how to manage it effectively. Today I’ll just tackle one aspect, which is how to handle messages that you aren’t sure if you should delete.

The first thing to remember is that many email clients have a “trash” mailbox, and the settings can vary from “empty the trash immediately (permanently delete) to “never empty the trash.” So if you have your trash folder set to prevent it from emptying, then nothing will ever be deleted permanently. This makes it very easy to be quick on the delete key in your inbox.

If you feel like you shouldn’t delete a message, I still advise moving it out of your inbox. A cluttered email inbox can be as stressful as a messy desk. First, create some email folders using categories. Break things down into the major areas of your life. For me it’s business-related emails and personal emails. Realize that the search features in email clients are very good. You should rely on these rather than spending lots of time creating folders and sub-folders. The more folders you have, the harder it can be to find things! If you have just a few folders, and a search feature, you should be able to find what you need in a matter of seconds. One final note, if you responded

to the message, but you still need to keep it, delete the one that’s in your inbox, and file the one from your “sent” folder. This will allow you to have both the original message and your response.

If you want to start with a with zero inbox today, right now, first you need to shut off that automatic download in your email client if you haven’t already. If your messages are downloading automatically, your technology is controlling you, rather than the other way around. Next, create a subfolder called “old emails to process,” and move everything before yesterday into that folder. Go through all of your emails from today and yesterday, either deleting or filing until you have zero messages in your inbox. Go back and process the others when you have some time, or wait until something comes up (like someone says, “did you get the email I sent you last week?”) It’s not as drastic as deleting everything and starting over, but it achieves the same result. When you’ve gotten to zero, RESIST the urge to click that send/receive button again! Go do something else! Work off your to-do list for a while, get some things done! Your email will still be waiting for you when you’re ready for it.
