Legends at the texas state Fair
Mary Jean Entrekin is dwarfed by a polar bear.Martha Pinson during the estate tour.
The Sulphur Springs Corvette Club’s annual Corvette Classic has become one of the leading Corvette venues in the four states area. October is always a month of the best of weather... or the worst. 2014 was the very best. 2015 was not as good with rain for four straight days. So, Legends members pulled out their street cars and braved the pouring rain to drive to Sulphur Springs for a good time. The Friday afternoon tour to the McKenzie Estate was a big hit with over 100 attending. With rain coming down in sheets, the attendees were very determined to see the World Class hunting trophy displays. We all just stood in awe at what Mickey and Barbara have done to exhibit wild animals from all parts of the globe. They were very gracious hosts, welcoming each person at the door.

The Country Club parking lot was full Saturday night as the annual dinner began. The sold out event brought Cor-vette owners from Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklaho-ma and Texas. The pre-dinner mixer was great with a live Jazz band and refreshments. Guest speaker was Johnny Downs, Chairman of the Cor-vette Museum. He presented a history of the Museum and current status of the new ad-ditions and services provided. Rob McEnroe won a free NCM membership at the close of the presentation. The evening ended with the introduction of Danny Seed of Lakeside Chev-rolet, the new “Dealer Sponsor” of the SSCC and the Corvette Classic. Danny then presented drawing winner, John Zachary, Continued on page 6

with a new 32” Flat Screen TV. The Corvette Classic show is advertised as “Rain or Shine” so Saturday the show was on. Large tents were erected late Friday night and the volunteers were ready. Over 65 beautiful cars were on display as the rain con-tinued. The rain stopped for three hours and the judging ended on time without a hitch. The trophies were award-ed, pictures were taken and the event closed at 2 pm.

As some of you may know Barb and I do a road trip almost every year with a bunch of C-2 drivers that I met on the internet back in 2008. This year the trip started in Flagstaff on Saturday, October 17 and ended in Alamogordo,NM twelve days and 685 miles later. Barb and I left Thur. morning and spent the first night in Amarillo. Since Barb had not done route 66, we took our time to see some of the sights; Cadillac Ranch, Blue Swal-low Motel in Tucumcari, El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Wig Wam Motel in Holbrook, and standing on the corner in Winslow,AZ. We got our picture taken, standing on the corner! There were eight couples on this trip; one each from Minneapolis, Oak Park,IL, La Quinta, CA., two each from Cave Creek, AZ and Mena, AZ and one amazing couple from Anna,TX, for a total of eight 63-67 C-2 Corvettes. Everyone got to the Twin Arrows Casino in Flagstaff, Sat. about 2 pm. The casino let us all park up front under the entrance canopy, which was a good thing as it hailed 1 1/2” hail stones 15 minutes later. No damage! The next morning the trip began in earnest with a scenic drive and lunch thru Sedona and Jerome to Cave Creek, AZ, a suburb of Phoenix. This would be our base for four days. We had day cruises around Cave Creek to Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright School, Wrigley Mansion, and scenic desert drives. Next stop Tucson. The drive was just 170 mi., but took all day with stops at museums and picture taking. The next few days we took in the Pima Air and Space, the AMARG aircraft boneyard and the Mission Mine, one of the largest open pit copper mines in the world. Then on to Tombstone and Bisbee, AZ and Las Cruces, NM. One of the highlights was the historical old town of Old Mesilla, with dinner at La
Posta, a famous restaurant in the old Butterfield Stage building. The trip to Alamogordo was highlighted by a stop at the White Sands Monument, the most unusual experience you can imagine. It’s not sand but gypsum, and because its white its cool to your bare feet! A nature photographer, doing a picture book on the Sands, asked if we would pose our Vettes for a picture. Two hours later he finally got enough photos. He took our info and says will contact us, when the book comes out. We’ll wait and see. The last day was spent at Pistachio Ranch, the New Mexico Space Museum and a going-away party that night. Friday dawned cold and raining. We headed east thru Ruidoso and hit snow flurries at the mountain passes, but soon we were in Texas on Hwy. 380 all the way home. All in all a great trip, the old girl did great, Barb did good, too. We look forward to next year. With the trip from Anna to Flagstaff and Alamogordo to home we traveled about 2300 mi. The only hiccup was a bad tank of gas in Aspermont, TX, the next to last day. With some gas additive to clear up the water, we came right on home. These folks have become great friends through these trips, sharing lots of miles, lots of good food, lots of adult beverages, and lots of laughs. We all look forward to see-ing each other every trip. These cars were made to drive and they should be driven. They are just a Chevy, so get in and drive. At first you will hear all kinds of strange noises. Then you will start to hear the mellow exhaust note. Then the singing of the tires. You begin to see the great countryside and soon you will be 500 mi down the road, thinking about tomorrow.

CORVETTE LEGENDS OF TEXASGENERAL MEETING
Saturday, November 14, 2015 at BJ’s Brewery, Addison, Texas
The meeting was called to order by Sam De-neault, President at 12:09 p.m. Lady Legends Winner: Kathy Weller. 50-50 Winner: Rocky Rainbolt. Congratulations!! Upcoming meetings: Dec. 12 NEW VENUE: Senor Chachote Cantina & Grill, 7602 N. Jupiter Rd,
Garland, Texas 75044, Phone: 972-530-3981 Joel Joseph updated us on the Texas Strong Toys for Tots Drive on Saturday, December 5. There are about 60 participants so far and expects a lot more participation as time draws near. We will begin staging at 9:00 a.m. at Corvette World, then plan to leave around 10:30 to head down to Pappasitos in Dallas to drop off toys. Joel has also made arrange-ments for those who want to eat lunch at Pappasi-tos afterward. The Lewisville Parade begins at noon on Satur-day, December 5 for those who are wanting to do the parade. Unfortunately, both the Toys for Tots Drive AND the Lewisville Parade fell on the same day, same time. Tom Atchison read a tribute to our veterans. Our program was Dr. Jon Taylor, Entertainer, Speaker, Comedy Stage Hypnotist. He performs comedy hypnosis on volunteers from the audience. The volunteers were Tom Atchison, Leslie Mello, Vicky Flugstad and Jo McEnroe. Needless to say, they all did a great job by power of suggestion from Dr. Taylor. It was comical and fun!! Our After Holiday Party is on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at The Tribute. Please bring the $35.00 per person to the December meeting or you can mail it in. Linda Deneault will be collecting the money. Meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m. followed by the ever famous raffle!
