Legends & Logging Days 2015!
Two Year Reigning Water Wars Champions, Northwoods Bank (pictured above), lose to new comers Charlie’s Marine (pictured below).
Park Rapids Signature Festival, Legends & Logging Days encompassed a full slate of activities and attractions. Water Wars on Main hosted a record number of teams, 20 with two-time winner Northwoods Bank being defeated by Charlie’s Dime (. The festival itself at the Antique Tractor Club East 40 enjoyed a number of demonstrators including wood whittlers, blacksmiths, rope making, beadwork, honey bees and much more. Chainsaw carvers from as far away as Michigan created masterpiece sculptures that found new homes through the Auction. Crowds of over 500 attended many of the Lumberjack shows and kids had a chance to climb in to the logrolling tank and get wet. There was an even larger historic encampment this year and attendees were treated to a piece of history, cannon demonstrations and tomahawk throwing, courtesy of Max Bailey Photography. The Smokey Hills Outdoor Store Legendary Archer competition saw the finals come down to an exciting shootout on Saturday. The Saturday night concert hosted local sensation Incredibly Real and The Farmer’s Daughters from the metro area. In all a very successful showcase of members, fun activities for the community and lots of media coverage for the Park Rapids Lakes Area.

Changes to OSHA Accident ReportingMinnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MNOSHA) adopted new federal rules in March for reporting inpatient hospitalizations, amputations, losses of eyes and fatalities to the agency. The new rules take effect Oct. 1, 2015. The changes are summarized below.
Hospitalization, Amputation, Eye Loss: For any inpatient hospitalization, amputation or eye loss, employers must report the incident within 24 hours of learning about it. Employers must report only an inpatient hospitalization, amputation or eye loss that occurs within 24 hours of a work-related incident.
An amputation is defined as the traumatic loss of a limb or other external body part. Amputations include a part, such as a limb or appendage,
which has been severed, cut off, amputated (either completely or partially); fingertip amputations with or without bone loss; medical amputations resulting from irreparable damage; and amputations of body parts that have since been reattached.
Fatalities: Employers must report work-related fatalities within eight hours of finding out about them. Employers only have to report fatalities that occurred within 30 days of a work-related incident.
Even employers who are exempt from routine OSHA injury and illness record keeping due to company size or industry are required to report such incidents.
Reporting: To report any of the above incidents, members must contact Minnesota OSHA Compliance during business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) at (651) 284-5050 or toll-free at 1 (877) 470-6742. After business hours, members should fall federal OSHA’s 24-hour, toll-free number at 1 (800)321-6742.

Arvig Named One of Prairie Business’ 50 Best Places to Work
PERHAM, MINN., Aug. 31, 2015— Arvig is excited to announce it has been named one of Prairie Business magazine’s 50 Best Places to Work in the northern Plains. Arvig will be featured in the
September issue of the magazine and honored as one of the top 25 large employers (100+ employees). The magazine article is available today on www.prairiebizmag.com. “It is an honor to be named one of Prairie Business’ best places to work,” said David Arvig, Chief Operating Officer/Vice President at Arvig. “This recognition is a true reflection of our employees, who—in my opinion—are the best around. Their dedication, hard work and positive attitudes have made an incredible impact on our company culture. Coming to work every day is a great experience, which in turn gives our customers a great experience, too.” Companies were nominated through an anonymous employee satisfaction survey and rated in areas including work environment, employee benefits and employee happiness. Consideration was also given to the number of nominations received per company. “People want to be happy at work. It’s just that simple,” said Korrie Wenzel, publisher at Prairie Business magazine. “The businesses that truly
care—about their people as well as the future of the business itself—need to understand that. As the region’s unemployment level plunges, businesses are quickly realizing that they have to work harder to recruit and retain the best workers.” Now in the second year of hosting the Best Places to Work contest, Prairie Business received nearly 2,500 surveys nominating more than 140 companies. About Arvig Arvig is a full-service telecommunications provider, delivering cutting-edge technology to residential and business customers throughout the state of Minnesota for nearly 65 years.
