NOTICE OF MOTION

Mr Shoebridge says-

Mr PRESIDENT:

I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move:

I. That this House notes: a. Serious concerns have been raised about the "Real Bodies" exhibition currently on

display at Byron Kennedy Hall, in the Entertainment Quarter Moore Park. b. Organisers have failed to answer questions about the provenance of the bodies

used in this show, and there are ongoing concerns that some of the bodies are

those of Chinese political prisoners. c. At a minimum there is genuine and well-founded concern that the people on

display did not give full, free and informed consent to be used as objects in this

exhibition. d. Lawyers groups, doctors organisations, Christian groups, groups of people with

Chinese heritage, and Falun Gong practitioners have all expressed alarm about the exploitation of people by this exhibition.

2. That this house recognises that: a. It is an offence against the law ofNSW to improperly interfere with, or offer any

indignity to, any dead human body or human remains. b. In the absence of freely given consent, the dissection and public exhibition of the

bodies of these people would undoubtedly represent improper interference and offering indignity to their human remains.

c. Similar exhibitions have been banned in France, Israel and the USA over concerns about the origins of bodies used, and the absence of documentation about consent.

3. That this House believes as a fundamental principle that human bodies should not be

exploited as property for commercial gain and that no person should have their remains placed on display for public viewing without proof that they have given their express and informed consent.
