EDITORIALFrom ‘Lags to Riches’ wow, we all know what a voice Sam Bailey has, having won the Best Female Vocalist in Leicester for a number of years now, performing in our clubs; a change of career, going into the prison service, but as she rightly says ‘it’s time to do something for me’ and judging by the comments on the X Factor panel, Sam has what it takes to go all the way. With standing ovations, and great reviews from the media, it looks as if Leicester could have another star in the making (forget how old you are Sam!) I must personally admit it’s nice to see Louie and Sharon back on the panel, if you’d got Mrs Brown on it we could have had a Wonga tribute act! Joking aside I feel Louie and Sharon along with Nicole and Gary make up a good cross section of judges for the music industry. So go on Sam, knock ‘em dead, but don’t forget your grass roots!!! It’s so easy to turn your back on where you first started, not just in Leicester, but over the country! Good

Moving on, Mick Knight has mislaid his diary, so if anyone has him booked in can you please confirm your bookings with him, I know he’s contacted a few of you, but there may be some he hasn’t. Had an interesting call from Trev Charles the other week, he is going to write in future issues of the club News with memories of Clubland, i.e. Clubs new and some that have shut, Ent. Secs. past and present, also some of the acts from back in time, so all in all some great memories to look forward to!Talking of things to look forward to, male vocalist Wayne Andrews (Jocky) an artist who can sing anything, a voice to suit most venues, has just started over the past few months in Clubland as a soloist. If the name rings a bell, he also does karaoke!! Also a night out not to be missed at the E.P.R in the lounge on Friday 1st November, a Charity Night in aid of Diabetes UK and Childrens Heart Unit Glenfield. Great entertainment, raffle and bucket collection. Letter To The EditorHi Dave, I got your email address from the Club News and just wondered if you would enter my letter in the next edition please.Just a little letter to say what a great few months entertainment I have seen at West End W. M. C. lately. There have been some excellent tribute shows which I have attended, and the turnout has been great. There has been music from all eras which has helped pull in a few new faces and the atmosphere has been fantastic.Drawing in new people isn't easy nowadays but it just goes to show that with a little hard work and enthusiasm it can be done.New Entertainment Secretary Lee Burchell has done a great job in his new role! Here's looking forward to many more good nights and shows, it's been along time coming. Well done Lee, keep up the good work. S. Anderson ( Lady Member)

On Friday October 11th we have a Macmillan Cancer Charity Show in aid of breast cancer. The night is in memory of one of our members, Andrea Hall, who passed away last year and there are five superb acts on, the reformed band The Munix, male/female duo Hot Stuff, vocalist Lesley, female duo Divas Thru The Decades and vocalist Phill Voss who is also the compere. Tickets are only £5 or you can pay on the door. Please support this very worthy cause. On Sunday October 27th we have a first class show on, 60’s chart makers The Casuals, who reached number 2 in 1968 with the great song Jesamine and The McCoys, whose Hang On Sloopy got to number 5 in 1965, compering the show is Shel McCrae who used to be in The Fortunes. A non-stop night of 60’s classics sung by the original stars. Tickets are available at the club priced only £7, don’t miss out. Only a couple of acts to report on this month, vocalist Stephen James from Birmingham who is one half of duo 2 Xtreme and stars in The Frankie Valli Story, which is here on Friday 4th October. A fabulous singer who entertained us all night with a wide variety of material and when we had some extra entertainment when the concert room got flooded he sang a few rain themed songs while the water got swept out, not many singers would have done that and it was well appreciated. August began with the first appearance here for Sheffield vocalist Cherry Pink and it won’t be the last, she was brilliant, going down well with songs from the 60’s to present day, she is appearing on the afore mentioned Charity Show as she is part of the duo Divas Thru The Decades which is also a great show. I was away when Vinny Christian was on but was confident he’d give us a good night as he always does and judging by the positive feedback on my return, was proved right. I mentioned I was going away, we had a fantastic weekend in Blackpool, seeing some great entertainment. Comedian Terry Cotta, vocalist Carol Kaye, compere/comedian Buddy Lee and The Sensation Dancers at The Viking, ventriloquist Mike Dennett and Chic at The Philharmonic Club, vocalists Shelley Timmins and Rob Johnson at Ma Kelly’s, vocalists Nikki Miller and Brad Lee Scott at The H & A Club and the hilarious Joe Pasquale at The Grand Theatre. Many thanks once again to Lionel and Sara at The Lynbar Guest House, Vance Road for the accommodation, looking forward already to going to Blackpool at Christmas this year for the first time.
