DISASTER IN AFRICA

Sometimes in desert climates, is does not rain for very long time. This happened

between 1968 and 1974 in the Sahel, west Africa. The winds changed direction

and the area did not receive any rain for six years. Hundreds of thousands of

people and nearly half of the animals in the area died because there wasn’t

enough water. People had to walk many kilometers to find water.

Central Java

The worst hit flood area in the country this rainy

season has been central Java, here 70 people had been Killed

an tens of thousands evacuated.

The public work ministry estimated that it will need

14 billion rupiah (US 6,7 millon) to reconstruct the bridges in

Kali Kuto and Kali Desa, central Java, and to repair a number

of roads in the province. Another 10, 36 billion rupiah is

needed to repair irrigation facilities.

The minister of public works. Radinal Mochtar, has

instructed that repairs on damaged roads and bridges be

completed the state owned construction company PT. Adi

might be repaired before the end of march, allowing farmers

to meet this years planting schedules. The agriculture ministry

Java whose field have been damaged by the floods.
