An act of humanity and solidarity was instigatedin Airdrie, Scotland in 1941 with over 6000signatures and messages of support sent to thebeleaguered city of Leningrad, following Hitlersquest to take the city as a military stronghold. Under terrible conditions, the women of Leningradresponded with an album of gratitude, filled withpoems, lithographs and messages. A remarkable and priceless piece of history ishoused in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, whichvery few Scottish residents are aware of. 5.
