Adoration on Wednesdays
Beginning February 22 the format of Adoration
will be changed due to lack of participation.
Mass will begin at 9:30 am followed by
Exposition, Silent Adoration for a period
of time and concluding with Benediction.
We encourage you to come on Wednesday
mornings to spend some quiet time with Jesus.
Share Lent campaign Supporting women is a priority
for Development and Peace –
Caritas Canada. For this year’s
Share Lent campaign, you are invited to listen to the voices of
women who are working to build the world of tomorrow ---
Women at the heart of change.
The following is a testimonial from Marta and Silva, two
women from Paraguay who are members of an indigenous
women’s farming association support by Development and
Peace – Caritas Canada:
“I wish that there was land for everyone, that
women were free[and] that they had the
freedom to organize and defend their rights.”
Women have always been at the heart of our
organization! Did you know that in 1979, Development
and Peace led a campaign to support the Grandmothers
of Plaza de Mayo, in Argentina, whose children and
grandchildren disappeared under the military
dictatorship?
Parish Parking Lot It has come to our attention that
the parking lot is not being used to full advantage. Please do not use 2 spots to park your vehicle. Also please do not prevent another car from leaving. The occupants of the car you block may have attended an earlier Mass or may need to leave in an emergency. Be considerate and sensitive to others.
Solemnity of Saint Joseph – March 20th (Parish Feast Day)
St. Joseph is the patron of our Parish but his patronage also stretches far and wide. He is noted for his patronage of labourers, pioneers, cabinetmakers, carpenters, craftsmen, confectioners, engineers, families, and fathers. He is also protector against doubt, and will intercede for a
happy death, a holy death, and interior souls. He is a role model for those who are concerned about social justice, a friend and carer of travellers, workers and working people. He is the patron saint of many countries such as Austria, Belgium, Bohemia, Canada, Korea and China. He is seen as the protector of the Catholic Church as he was of Mary.
Solemn Mass with all priests of North Deanery
will be celebrated here in St. Joseph’s Church
on Monday, March 20 at 7:00 pm followed by fellowship in the Parish Hall.

CATECHISM CORNER The call to conversion, a change of heart is the focus of our Lenten catechesis. We help our students better understand the meaning of Lent. Lent is the season of change and renewal; a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving; of hope and new life; of the power of the Cross and the glory of the Resurrection. We focus on the Sacrament of Penance or Reconciliation, not only learning and understanding it, but most especially celebrating it joyfully with our faith community of St Joseph Church. Here’s our catechism children’s schedule to celebrate
the Sacrament of Reconciliation with individual confessions:
Saturdays at 2:00 pm in St. Joseph’s Church
March 4 Year 3 & 4 Saturday Students
March 11 Year 3 & 4 Sunday Students
March 18 Year 5 & 6 Saturday Students
March 25 Year 5 & 6 Sunday Students
Years 7, 8 & 9 Saturday and Sunday students will join our parish penitential service on Thursday, March 16th 7:00 pm in the church.
A Day of Reflection has been planned for Saturday, April 1 at 9:30 am in the Lower Hall. This is for all catechists to aid them in fulfilling their spiritual needs during this Lenten Season.
The Youth and Young Adult Ministry would like to sincerely thank St. Joseph’s Parishioners who have used the Youth Group's Co-Op number for gas. $316 was raised in 2016. Thank you for your continued support!
Lenten Celebrations
Stations of the Cross will be held Friday evenings
at 7:00 beginning Friday, March 3rd. We invite all parishioners to participate.
The catechism program would like to invite all parishioners to participate in our Journey through Lent. Each time you are able to come to church to join in the Stations of the Cross, please put a "foot print" along the wall under the Stations. The "foot prints" symbolize our walk with Jesus as he made his way to Calvary. We hope this will help our children understand that our life of faith is a journey always directed toward God and eternal life. The footprints and tape will be available at the entrance of the church. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Lent 2017
Lent is time for positive growth for every one of us. Becoming more and more conformed to Jesus. That's what Lent will do for us: help us to reach the end of the season, to celebrated Easter with a deep
renewal of the life of Jesus within us. And that will happen through the three things that are very connected with Lent.
First of all, PRAYER: Jesus said don't pray like so many people do. He says “Just go into your room, be quiet." More than repeating a lot of words - listen. That's how we pray, by listening. You are listening, trying to have God's word penetrate your spirit, your heart. And God's word is a powerful word that will change us. Transform us. And so we must really try to listen during Lent.
FASTING is a very important part of the Lenten season. Usually we associate fasting with a change in our eating habits of some sort. Giving up certain kinds of food perhaps, or cutting down on the amount of food we eat. There are different ways to fast. We should be fasting for a reason. When we fast we are supposed to let ourselves be aware of people who don't have food. If we experience a feeling of hunger for a few hours because we skipped lunch that can help remind us of the many of the people in the world who feel hunger every day. And some who have practically no food - they are dying of starvation. And so our fasting is to give up something so that we become aware of those who are in need.
And then we move toward ALMSGIVING; not just giving from what we have in excess. If we are really generous we would give out of our substance to those who have so much less. Almsgiving is a form of prayer because it is "giving to God" — and not mere philanthropy. It is a form of fasting because it demands sacrificial giving — not just giving something, but giving up something, giving till it hurts. We pray to listen to God, we fast to remind ourselves of those who suffer because they don't have enough, and we give our alms so that we can make life better for every person on our planet. Jesus presented almsgiving as a necessary part of Christian life: "when you give alms, sounds no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing" (Mt 6:2-3). He does not say IF you give alms, but WHEN. Like fasting and prayer, almsgiving is non-negotiable. The Catechism of the Catholic Church puts it succinctly: "The goods of creation are destined for the entire human race" (n. 2452). When each of us enters into the season of Lent in this way, not only will we help to make our world a better place, but clearly we will be growing more and more into the likeness of Jesus whose heart always went out to the poor and the suffering.
