The future of education

Countless jobs will disappear but many new ones will emerge in their place. Children and students are now learning for jobs that in ten years will no longer exist. How do we prepare them for this? What does the future of education look like?

Short introduction

TedxGroningen, maart 2016. If tomorrow was your last day, what would you do today? bit.ly/TedxNick

400 days long I was hiding myself in a game where I got awarded for every point I scored.

At first it were just hours. Year over year I began playing more hours and complete days where I was able to live my life completely without the reallife.

Within 2 years many things changed my life. My godfather died by falling of the stairs. My cousin comitted suicide out of depression.

My uncle who ran a cow-farm for 40 years & was helping any spare time with renovations of our house and many others houses in the family got extremely ill.

He wanted to become an inventor but his dream was kept away from him.

The only way out of my game addiction was to completely shift my life and this started by doing reallife challenges, the first one I took I won with something I was terrible at and scared of.

If you can help reduce the 90% of the Europeans that work without any passion or engagement, would you go for it today? Would you offer them a stage to become an inventor in the 21st century?

I take you into ways of doing so! EDCOM Ad Venture challenge & EACA call for paper + Summerschool (2,5 month / week)Hackatrain Amsterdam-Berlin / Hacktrain London / Eduhack (24-68 uur)Startupbus (week + festivalweekend)Innovation in a week (week)Waterfabriek KW1C (year)Battle of Concepts (Online, everyday)OpenIDEO Open Innovation Challenge (Every 3 months)Innovation Games (3 times annually, one week)TEC-X Technology Entrepreneurship Community eXperience (6 months)Sustainable business challenge Sustainable motion (Annually)

Why these challenges for you?Placements you do will decide if we will have more of the same (just a number) or creating a change in your students life towards all the way changing systems for creating a sustainable planet for the next generations.

YOUR ADVISE AND RESOURCES CAN AVOID TO GET PEOPLE WORKING FOR A BOSS WITHOUT PASSION & INSTEAD OF THAT BECOMING A LEADER IN THE 21ST CENTURY.

WE NO LONGER LIVE IN AN ERA OF LINEAIR GROWTH, WE LIVE IN A CHANGE OF ERAS.

EXPONENTIAL TECHNOLOGIES WILL TAKE OVER ALL KNOWLEDGE & REPRODUCTION WORK. THIS CHANGES THE REASON OF LEARNING, WORKING & LIVING Nick van Breda

THE FUTURE OF WORK IS UNCERTAIN & BRIGHT#NEVERTHATMANYPROBLEMS#NEVERTHATMUCHACCESS#NEVERTHATMUCHOPPORTUNITIES#NEVERTHATMUCHWEALTH

IT IS DUE OUR CRISISES THAT WE LOOK AT SUSTAINABILITY

IT IS DUE OUR EDUCATION WE WORK ON MAKING THE 1% RICHER THAN THE OTHER 99%

IT IS DUE OUR CULTURE WE ONLY ACCEPT GROWTH (AT THE COST OF SOMEONE ELSE)

IT IS DUE OUR SOCIAL SYSTEMS WE NO LONGER FEEL THE NEED OF WATCHING & TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN PARENTS

The change of eras makes todays Western education unnecessary and even dangerous!

The average lifespan of a company reduced from 67 years (1937) to 15 years (2015) & organizations will completely dissapear in the upcoming 35 years since organizations are not built for constant change. Richard Foster (Yale University) & Laurens Waling (Founder Part-up)

Organisation > Organizonderen (make more impact with less paperwork, rules, money & structure)

End of the importance of hard skills:Knowledge & skills will be replaced to adoption speed to new technology like VR/AR.

Problem solving: Change routes every week, look at your surroundings & let your 6 senses wonder, what do you notice? Keep record of it in a dummy/notebook and study the principles of Da VinciDigital Literacy: Ga try something new like coding on Codeacademy.com / hourofcode.com a learn an hour of code every week. Start creating new systems with fun tools like MakeyMakey afterwards, does every technology around you become more logical? Is advising a (tech)students alot easier?Empathy & negotiation: add 200 random people on social media and try to convince them talking to you is worth it. What culture differences are valuable to use in your work and what network did you create that is opening up lots of opportunities? Communication: Try to record yourself more often in a weekly vlog. Become a reporter about your own life, your worklife or a special interest and see how communication creates influence. To reach more people, create translations under the vlogs.Teamwork: Participate in a hackathon, working in teams of people you dont know on a common goal you realize you can built trust and overcome any bias prejudices. The endresult: a day full of beautiful results built together with everyones diversity and talent.Emotional intelligence: Reflects your day and post about it every day on your social media in a blog and ask others how they feel themselves in various situations you encounter. The more transparant you get the more Emotional intelligence you create due to open answers from others.Leadership: change role every 6 months, someone else the projectleader next period. Define your ideal leadership role via http://teamily.com and the Belbin grouproleplay game.

How to train these 21st century skills in daily life yourself? MAKE THEM A HABIT!

Its the first time we need generations that are able to come up with ideas to solve grand challenges.
