Nepal’s Elimination Status

In 1991, the World Health Assembly passed a resolution to eliminate leprosy before 2000.

Out of 122 countries, as many as 113 countries met the target. Then, assembly reset the target for 2005.

By then, 6 countries eliminated the disease with exception of Nepal, Brazil and East-timor.

The assembly again set another target and directed the 3 countries to meet target by the end of 2009.
