Definitions

• Heritage= the possessions or traditions that have been passed down from one generation to another.

• Preservation=the act of keeping in existence, preventing ruin and decay. Usually applies to the maintenance of something in it’s present form without change.

• Conservation=protection from destructive influences. Aware of present and future needs, it is more flexible and forward looking than preservation and does not rule out necessary change.

Time CapsuleYou have been commissioned to make a time capsule that will be opened in 100 years time. The capsule must contain objects that will give the people of the future a flavour of what it was like to be in your generation. It must contain 2 lists of items that are linked to those you wish to be ‘preserved’ and those which you are happy to allow a little change to as long as their general spirit is ‘conserved’. The objects can be anything you want: films, books, buildings etc. But you must state clearly why you have selected each object and why it deserves to be remembered.

Aim for 5 on each list and be prepared to present to your class mates
