Pronunciation Rules (L)
-
Pronunciation
In Spanish, we actually pronounce words
the same way we would say them in
English. There are some exceptions and
changes, like the double “r” or “l”, but for the
most part, we say words like we pronounce
them in English.
-
“h” in Words Try to pronounce the following:
Hola
Helado
Hermana
Hombre
In Spanish, “h” is always silent!
Example:
Hijo
Hacer
-
“J” in Words Try to pronounce the following:
Jugar
Viajar
Ejercicio
Jirafa
Remember “j” make the “h” sound
in Spanish
Example:
Joven
Jefe
-
“Ñ” in WordsTry to pronounce the following:
Mañana
Español
Niña
When you see a wiggly line —
called a tilde (teel-deh) — on top
of the letter n that looks like ñ, you
make the n sound in “onion”.
Example:
Señora
Daño
-
“ll” in WordsTry to pronounce the following:
Llamo
Rodilla
Ella
Pollo
The “ll” makes a “y” or “j” sound.
Example:
llover
llave
-
“rr” in WordsTry to pronounce the following:
Barra
Perro
Tierra
Keep in mind that there are two R
sounds in Spanish: the single R
sound and the double R (or RR)
sound
You need to trill the r sound when
you find “rr” in a word
Ex. Arroz
-
“V” in WordsTry to pronounce the following:
Verbo
Varios
Valle
Validar
The “v” sound is pronounced as a
“b” sound in Spanish. Listen:
