Why did Jesus redeem us?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in

you, whom you have received from God? You

are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God

with your body.and

belong to him

Key Point #1

Jesus redeemed us so that we would belong to him and

thank him by using our lives to serve him.

Jack says, “I thought we learned earlier in the Second Article that

Jesus ransomed us so that we would be free. Now we’re being told that we belong to Jesus and

have to serve him. I don’t see how these two things fit together at all.”

How do you answer Jack?

How do we live lives that show our thanks to Jesus?

Isaiah 61:10

I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed

me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with

her jewels.dressed in the robes of Jesus’ righteousness

Psalm 119:103-105How sweet are your words to my taste,

sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain

understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate

every wrong path. Nun Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for

Ephesians 4:22-24

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is

being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your

minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in

true righteousness and holiness.

Psalm 100:2-5Worship the LORD with

gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that

the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep

of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give

thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good

and his love endures forever…

Ephesians 5:2

…and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave

himself up for us as a fragrant offering

and sacrifice to God.

Key Point #2

We live lives of righteousness, innocence,

and blessedness to show our thanks to Jesus.

You’re baby-sitting (mowing the lawn, delivering groceries) for a

person in your neighborhood. Someone notices that you’re

wearing a t-shirt with the name of your church on it. That person

starts to make fun of you, asking whether you’re one of those “holy-

holy” Christians. How can you serve Jesus in righteousness when

something like that happens?

Page 14: Lesson 35. How does God want us to thank Jesus for redeeming (ransoming) us from sin, death, and the devil?

Two of your Christian friends are planning to go someplace that their parents have clearly

and expressly warned them not to go (R-rated movie). They ask you to go along with them. How can you serve Jesus in innocence

when something like that happens?

Page 15: Lesson 35. How does God want us to thank Jesus for redeeming (ransoming) us from sin, death, and the devil?

When you’re out of high school, you won’t be “required” to

attend worship services or Bible classes any longer. How can you serve Jesus in blessedness when

that time comes?

Page 16: Lesson 35. How does God want us to thank Jesus for redeeming (ransoming) us from sin, death, and the devil?

When only will we be able to serve Jesus in perfect and everlasting righteousness,

innocence and blessedness?

Revelation 7:14-15I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they

who have come out of the great tribulation; they have

washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, ‘they

are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his

tent over them.’”

when we are with him before God’s throne in heaven

When only will we be able to serve Jesus in perfect and everlasting righteousness,

innocence and blessedness?Revelation 14:4-5

These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They

follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were

purchased from among men and offered as

firstfruits to God and the Lamb. No lie was found in

their mouths; they are blameless.

Key Point #3We will be able to serve

Jesus perfectly only when he takes us to be blameless with

him forever in heaven.
