Why are most of the tests and practice activities online?
1. Labodanglais and VirtualWritingTutor provide instant feedback, so students don’t have to wait a week or more for corrections.
2. Labodanglais implements the “Mastery Model” for learning, where students can repeat activities until they achieve the score they want.
3. Labodanglais is available online 24/7, to fit in students’ busy lives.
Why are there so many pictures in each lesson?
Memory
Your brain encodes concepts in a variety of ways. Each additional memory type (as speech, as text, as an action and as a picture) helps to make remembering the concept easier and faster.
Difficult to remember
Easy to remember
Concept

TextSpeech
Saying a word, seeing it written, miming it and seeing
a picture of it can help you remember the concept
better.
Why are pictures black and white?Simple line drawings keep the lesson focused on key concepts.
Research shows that interesting (but conceptually irrelevant) colour pictures in a lesson cause students to learn less (Harp & Mayer, 1997; Mayer, Heiser & Lon, 2001).

LET’S PLAY PERIL!LET’S PLAY PERIL!
Peril Rules
• How to play: 3 teams are shown 5 subjects, each with $ values from $100 to $500.
• The host reads the clue aloud to the contestants. Contestants then try to formulate the appropriate question for the gold portion of the clue.
• The first contestant to raise his/her hand gives an answer.
Peril Rules
• Before answering, contestants can consult with their teams for a maximum of 30 seconds.
• If the answer is right, the $ value of that clue is added to the team’s score . A wrong answer will subtract the $ value from the score.
• DOUBLE PERIL questions double the $ value of the question.
Peril Rules
• Sometimes, the judge will have to decide which team raised their hands first.
• Sometimes, the judge will have to make unpopular decisions.
• The judge’s decision is final.
We will need the following…
A judge (NOT the teacher) : The judge makes impartial decisions about the acceptability of answers.
A score keeper (NOT the teacher) : The scorekeeper calculates the score on the board.
A technician: The technician will operate the scoreboard
A host: The host has to read the questions and answers on the screen
