To solve equations with variables on each side, use the Addition or Subtraction Property of Equality to write an equivalent equation with the variable on one side. Then solve the equation.

Example 1: Solve:

5x5x ++ 1212 == 2x2x-5x-5x -5x-5x

1212 == -3x-3x-3-3 -3-3-4-4 == xx

5x5x ++ 1212 == 2x2x-2x-2x -2x-2x3x3x ++ 1212 == 00

Example 2: Solve:

7x7x ++ 33 == 2x2x ++ 2323-2x-2x -2x-2x5x5x ++ 33 == 2323

Example 3:

A car rental agency has two plans. Under plan A, a car rents for $80 plus $20 each day. Under plan B, a car rents for $120 plus $15 each day. What number of days results in the same costs?80 + 20d = 120 + 15d
