    The negative of may is always may not. There is no form, mayn’t.

    She may be at the cinema. Maybe she is at the cinema.

    Also, may is used for present time and possible future time.She may be at the cinema now.She may go to the cinema tomorrow.

    The negative form of might is might not. We usually don’t say mightn’t.Might not means maybe not. It might not be possible. It is raining. They might not go to the concert.She has a cold.     R ay is an insomniac. He has many problems sleeping at night. He is doingpoorly in school. He can’t sleep so he is too tired to study. His mother toldhim that he should see a sleep specialist.

    Ray visited a sleep specialist. The doctor told him he should listen toclassical music before going to bed. “ It might relax you,” the doctor said. The prob-lem for Ray is he hates classical music. The doctor said to listen to some soft jazz.“That may help you get tired,” he remarked. Listening to soft jazz makes Ray ill.“You should try the kind of music you like and see what happens,” the doctor stated.

    Ray left with little hope. That night Ray couldn’t sleep. He remembered what thedoctor had said. He got up, took out a Metallica CD and a Pantera CD and putthem in his CD player. He turned the volume up and in five minutes, he was sleepinglike a baby.

    Now, Ray has no problem sleeping. He just turns up the heavy metal. It’s his fami-ly who can’t sleep now!
