LESSON OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson the students: Will become aware of the problem of homelessness in America Will be able to discuss issues provided by the text Will have used specific language regarding the problem presented in the text Will be able to discuss the problem of homelessness in a larger context Will have used grammar knowledge in exercises. MATERIALS: text sheets, handouts ACTIVITY 1- READING THE TEXT -10 minutes Aim: to understand the problem of homelessness in America. Procedure: the students will work in teams to discuss the text. ACTIVITY 2- WARM-UP – 5 minutes Aim: this is a warm up meant to link previous knowledge to the text the students read. Procedure: the teacher asks the students if they knew the seriousness of the issue and if it is as serious in Romania as it is in America.

Aim: to understand the problem of homelessness in America. Procedure: the students will work in teams to discuss the text. ACTIVITY 3- WORKING IN TEAMS 20 minAim: This activity aims at allowing students to work together using specific language, agreeing, disagreeing, giving suggestions on how to diminish the problem discussed in the text. Procedure: The teacher forms groups of students; the students will have to give suggestions on how to diminish the problem of homelessness; the students will write a half-page argumentation and everybody will read aloud their suggestions. ACTIVITY 4 PRACTICE: GRAMMAR, REPHRASING 15 minutes Aim: the students will exercise their grammar knowledge using information from the text.Procedure: the students will come to the blackboard and will solve the exercises given by the teacher. ACTIVITY 5 PRACTICE: SPEAKING free debate - 25 minutesAim: this activity aims at using the information and conclusions from the previous activities in the interpretation of the text; it also aims at establishing points of contact between the problems discussed by the text and the situation in Romania. Procedure:

1. Students will present their opinion on the problem of the text2. Students will discuss on whether it is the fault of the state or the fault of the people.ACTIVITY 6 FURTHER PRACTICE: SPEAKING 25 minutesAim: this activity will stimulate the creativity of the studentsProcedure: Students are asked to write a page essay in which they will create an imaginary, utopic world, free of problems.
