    some questions: Have you ever been in

    another culture? How much have you learnt

    from it? Did you get in trouble in some

    situations?

    students who have been in a different

    culture tell their experience.

    15 Reading Groups T presents to the students a story about awoman who describes her experiences of

    growing up as a Japanese American and

    marrying an American man. She asks them to

    organize into three groups.

    Ss organize the groups and then, each one

    receives a piece of the story. (Beginning,

    middle, and ending of the story). Each

    group has to read the passage.

    classT invites the students to summarize theirreading parts in order to build the complete

    1.How did Houston view her role as a female

    within her traditional Japanese family?

    2.How did she change as a consequence of

    contact with the Hakujin world?

    3.Why did her brothers warn her against

    Caucasian men?

    4.How do Japanese and American attitudesdiffer in relation to serving guests?

    5.Why did Houston find her role as wife

    confusing times?

    Ss have to organize new groups and in

    each one have to be a member of the

    previous ones, and they must write a first

    draft answering the questions the teacher

    provided to them.

    FINISHING 15 Listening Whole class T plays a video-song about different culturepictures around the world.

    Ss have to watch the pictures and listen to

    the songs message carefully. Then, they

    have to give a short conclusion connecting

    the reading with the songs message. Also

    they can say the advantages and

    disadvantages of living in different

    cultures.
