Students’ problems: students may have difficulties in understanding the meaning of certain words or
some of them might find the topic not interesting enough

Activity 1: Warm up
Aim: - to create a relaxed working environment for students to feel inspired and curious to participate
in the lesson
Timing: 3`
Interaction: T-Ss
Activities: - teacher greets her students, she puts down the absentees, she is interested in their
emotional condition
Activity 2: Lead in
Aim:
- to introduce and personalize the topic
- to state the objectives of the lesson
- to encourage Ss-Ss interaction and group work
Materials: picture
Timing: 7`
Interaction: T-Ss
Activities:
- T shows her students a picture with a crime scene and the students have to analyze it very
closely and answer some questions based on the picture: who are the people in the picture,
what are they doing, where is the picture taken?
- A discussion follows up regarding crime dramas. Students discuss whether they enjoy
watching such TV programmes and mention their reasons. Also, teacher asks them to
mention some titles of crime dramas.
Activity 3: Practice (pre-reading)
Aim :
- To focus on vocabulary related to crime;
- To pre-teach vocabulary for a text about crime in the reading section;

- Develop vocabulary and writing;
Material: textbook, notebooks, blackboard, PPT
Timing: 7’
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss
Activities: - students are asked to work with a partner and write down five words connected with the
topic of crime. They have to make sure they know what they mean;
- T asks them to write a mixture of nouns, verbs and adjectives;
- T writes the words on the blackboard dividing them into 3 sections: nouns, verbs and
adjectives.
- T shows on the PPT her own list of words to complete the students’ choices.
Activity 4: Practice (matching exercise)
Aim: - Practise and develop reading skills;
- Develop vocabulary and writing;
- Use a dictionary to help understand words and phrases;
- Focus on vocabulary related to crime.
Material: dictionary, textbook, notebooks;
Timing: 7’
Interaction: Ts-Ss, Ss-Ss
Activities: - T divides the class into 6 groups and gives each group a dictionary. Students should look up
in the dictionary the words in the list and then match the words with their correct definitions;
- T supervises the activity and helps her students whenever they are in need;
- The 6 groups compare their results while the T writes on the blackboard the correct
matching.
Activity 3: Further practice
Aim: - enrich vocabulary
- develop students’ general knowledge
Material: textbook, notebooks
Timing: 7`

Activities: - students work in the same groups and they have to complete the sentences given at ex. 4
with the correct form of the words and phrases from the previous exercise;
- Teacher supervises the activity;
- Teacher corrects the answers and writes them on the board.
Activity 5: Reading
Aim:
- To practice reading for general and specific information;
- To match headings with paragraphs in a text;
- To develop reading, writing skills.
Material: textbook, notebooks, blackboard
Timing: 10`
Interaction: T-Ss,
Activities: - students have to individually read the text and think about the content of each paragraph;
- Then they write a question which will make a heading for each paragraph;
- Students compare their answers to find out the best solution.
Activity 6: Follow-up activity
Aim:
- To provide the Ss with the opportunity to practise the vocabulary;
- To develop reading, writing skills;
Material: textbook, notebooks, blackboard
Timing: 10`
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss

Activities: - students work in pairs and match the headings (A-E) with the correct paragraphs in the
text;
- Students then compare the answers with the other students’;
- Teacher checks the answers and offers feedback on the activity during the class;
- Teacher checks if the objectives were fulfilled.
