Teaching skills: matching and fill-in, correct order, individual and pair work
Students’ problems: students may have difficulties in understanding the meaning of certain words or
some of them might find the topic not interesting enough

Activity 1: Warm up
Aim: - to create a relaxed working environment for students to feel inspired and curious to participate
in the lesson
Timing: 3`

Activities: - teacher greets her students, she puts down the absentees, she is interested in their
emotional condition
Activity 2: Lead in
Aim:
- to introduce and personalize the topic
- to state the objectives of the lesson
- to encourage Ss-Ss interaction and group work
Materials: picture
Timing: 7`
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss
Activities:
- T shows her students a picture with a teacher and asks them what they think about this job.
Students have to answer the following questions: what the job involves, what qualities are
needed for the job, whether the job is suitable for them;
- A discussion follows up regarding this job.
Activity 3: Practice (quiz)
Aim :
- To focus on vocabulary related to jobs;
- To pre-teach vocabulary for a text about jobs in the reading section;
- Develop vocabulary and writing;
Material: textbook, notebooks, blackboard

Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss
Activities: - students have to do a personality quiz to help them decide what kind of work might be
suitable for them. They work with a partner.
- Before doing the quiz, students read through the questions and answers and write down
any words they don’t understand and check if they can work out what they mean from the
context.
- Then students look at page 190 and check the results of the quiz.
Activity 4: Practice
Aim: - To discuss the qualities that are needed for different jobs;
- Practise and develop speaking skills;
- Develop vocabulary and writing;
Material: dictionary, textbook, notebooks;
Timing: 7’
Interaction: Ts-Ss, Ss-Ss
Activities: - students work with a partner and decide which of the jobs listed are suitable for them;
they have to think about what the job involves and what qualities are needed for the job;
- T reviews some nouns that express the qualities needed for certain types of jobs;
- T supervises the activity and helps her students whenever they are in need;
- Students present to the other colleagues their appreciation of the best job.
Activity 5: Further practice (correct order)
Aim: - enrich vocabulary
- develop students’ general knowledge
- focus on words and expressions related to work
Material: textbook, notebooks

Activities: - before moving on to the vocabulary section (employment), teacher asks her students what
they would have to do if they found a job they wanted to apply for;
- Students read the advice on how to find a job in the UK and put the sentences in the correct order;
- teacher tells the students to close their books and reads them the sentences out loud in the correct
order leaving gaps for some of the key words or expressions.
- Teacher supervises the activity;
- Teacher corrects the answers and writes them on the board.
Activity 6: Practice (discussion)
Aim: - to practice speaking;
- To focus on vocabulary related to work.
Material: textbook, notebooks, blackboard
Timing: 10`
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss
Activities: - in pairs students have to answer and write down some questions from a list;
- Then students read out loud their answers.
Activity 7: Follow-up activity
Aim:
- To provide the Ss with the opportunity to practise the vocabulary;
- To develop reading, writing skills;
Material: textbook, notebooks, blackboard
Timing: 10`
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-Ss
Activities: - students work in pairs and add new ideas to the list provided in the textbook;4
- Then they discuss which they think are the most important and why;
- Students then compare the answers with the other students’;
- Teacher checks the answers and offers feedback on the activity during the class;
- Teacher checks if the objectives were fulfilled.
