How to make the videos interactive:
Each video comes with a task that was set by theemployer, this may be written down or if you arewatching videos from G M Monk, or The Depot,
this is a seperate video where the task is explainedby the employer.
The lesson plans below are for you to add to andchange where needed. You can choose to add thetask into the lesson plans or set as homework. Thetasks are in a seperate word document that we will
send to you.Once you have finished the task you can contact
the Open Doors team for feedback from theemployer which can be written or you can invite
the employer for a live Q&A at a later date.
Structure / Activity:
5 minutes: Introduce today's activity - learning about careers in East Sussex and local
businesses, we will be watching a video from Open Doors
5 minutes: discuss the sector of the business and ask students their first thoughts, such as
'what do you know about jobs in construction?' 'what kind of jobs do you think are done
outdoors?'
15 minutes: watch the video and fill out listening sheet
5 minutes: revisit the questions you asked before and ask if opinions have changed
10 minutes: go through listening worksheet
15 minutes: pick a job you have seen in the video and research more, make a spider
diagram in your workbook and have lines off of it such as 'education' and what the person
mentioned in the video, and 'daily jobs' then their different tasks.
5 minutes: regroup and discuss homework of

construction?'. Introduce jobs such as Civil Engineering, Geologist, and Research Scientist
in concrete studies (you can pull up actual job openings with salaries here)
15 minutes: watch the video

25 minutes:Discuss the proportions of concrete, the traditional process of heating at 180
degrees, and ask students to devise ways of how important it is to be environmentally
friendly in construction. If you want to do more work you can run this task on the importance
of proportions in concrete making

valuable?, do you see how skills in science will help you get a job in construction?"

beliefs that these are low paid jobs and just for men - introduce jobs such as Civil Engineering,
Geologist, and Research Scientist (you can pull up actual job openings with salaries here)

thought about work as an electrician - do they have any perceptions about these jobs?
25 minutes: Work on the task set by G M Monk and complete the task on electric currents and
rooms OR research jobs in construction that are well paid and need degrees, and work on myth
