9. Do you think Charlotte did the right thing when she encouraged Wilbur to spin a web? Use information and details from “Charlotte’s Web” to help you explain why or why not.
Sample two-point response: Yes, I think Charlotte did the
right thing. She knew Wilbur couldn’t spin a web, but he
would keep thinking he could unless she made him try

Read the passage. Then choose the best answer for each question.
As Billy walked home from school on Friday, he noticed the
piles of leaves forming in his neighbors’ yards. He knew that he
would be raking the leaves in his own yard the next day.
On Saturday morning, Billy gathered everything he needed.
He found gloves, a rake, a broom, and a box of leaf bags. When
he opened the leaf bags, he saw that they were decorated with
eyes, noses, and big crooked smiles. Billy worked for two hours,
until the yard was perfectly cleared.
He looked at his work and saw that he had filled eight leaf
bags. He carried them to the curb. He looked at the pile of
stuffed bags. He laughed at how much they looked like huge
pumpkins.
As Billy was picking up his tools, one of the neighbors
walked over. The neighbor looked at Billy’s yard, and then he
said he wished Billy would rake his yard, too.

Lesson 26Oral Reading Fluency
Cam did not enjoy her weekend chores. She wanted to
help around the house as her brother and sister did. Still,
she dreaded every Saturday morning.
Her mother let Cam try different chores each week,
hoping to find one that Cam might enjoy. First, Cam tried
laundry. After she turned her father’s white work shirts
pink, her mother decided that Cam’s older brother Mark
should probably keep doing the laundry.
Next, Cam tried vacuuming. She got a pair of socks
stuck in the vacuum cleaner by accident. Cam’s sister,
Libby, took over after that.
Cam was sad. She felt that nothing she did helped her
family.
Then one Saturday morning, Cam’s mother had an
idea. “Cam, why don’t you help me weed the garden?”
Cam had never worked in the garden before, but she
liked being outside. She put on gardening gloves and
followed her mother outside.
After a few hours, Cam was still hard at work, but she
was enjoying herself.
“Cam, you did a great job!” her mother said happily.
“I think we have found the right chore for you.”
