Rewind: discussion of creating ideas from "The Copywriter's Workshop"1. Preparation - do your homework; understand what you

want to say; collect your thoughts and facts.2. Frustration - The process of being frustrated often is your

mind trying to answer the questions you put in front of it.3. Incubation - Brainstorm, go outside... whatever gets you

thinking about the project or maybe don't think about the project.

4. Illumination - Develop those thoughts into ideas. Take them through the stages of development: (thoughts, comps, etc.)

5. Evaluation - Evaluate the ideas (pros and cons); how can the idea be improved? It may be able to be.

Brainstorming ...

"It's what you do before creating anything final. It's the process of tuning into both muses and critics in search of possibilities, directions and solutions. You've heard it before and it's true: there are no bad ideas when brainstorming. Have you been giving this crucial step its due? Are you accepting solutions that are too easy or convenient before the search for something GREAT has been exhausted? Go for quantity. Variation. Risk Adventure." p.118, Creative Sparks

Devise a system for cataloging your ideas and future projects and solutions ...

Fishboning/Mindmapping

Processes that develop ideas and catalog various attributes and thoughts about the subject through a defined process that gets the ideas out of your mind.

Why is this important? Our minds try to filter our thoughts and if we don't create a process to free them, we often dismiss ideas before they can be tested for worthiness.
