    Lets Build Some Cells!

    Assignment: You and a partner will be responsible for learning about one part of an animal celland one part of a plant cell. These parts are called organelles. You will learn about the purpose

    of this part, what it looks like and its structure (ie. Even though its already quite small it may be

    made of other smaller things too!). You will present your findings to the class and your

    classmates will be using the information you give them as their study notes for a quiz. Therefore,

    work hard on this assignment!

    Expectations:

    - Research with your partner about both your animal cell part and your plant cell part- Prepare a short report (full sentences) describing both your animal cell part and your

    plant cell part

    o Remember that you need to discuss what the purpose of this part is, what it lookslike and its structure

    - Using various art materials, create a small version of both your animal cell part and yourplant cell part. We will be making a giant animal cell and giant plant cell from these

    smaller pieces.

    - Describe your plant and animal cell in 3 sentences or less and include with your creativerepresentation of your parts. (This will be going on the giant diagram)

    - Give a short presentation to your classmates about your animal cell part and your plantcell part

    - Take notes during the presentations on the worksheet provided to youMarking Rubric:

    1. Hand in Report (30 marks)- Is it well organized?- Discusses purpose of the assigned plant and animal organelle- Discusses the structure of the assigned plant and animal organelle- Discusses what the assigned plant and animal organelles look like- Is there proper use of grammar, punctuation and spelling?- Is there evidence of thorough research2. Creative representation of both plant and animal organelles (20 marks)- Does it look similar to what these parts look like in pictures?- Is there a lot of effort put into the representation? (creativity!)

    - Have you included a 2-3 sentence summary about both the animal cell part and plant cellpart for the big diagram

    3. Presentation and Notes (10 marks)- Are both partners involved in the presentation?- Is it obvious that the research has been thorough?- Can the audience clearly hear you?- Do you and your partner explain the purpose of your assigned animal cell part and plant

    cell part and the structure of your assigned animal cell part and plant cell part?

    - Do you and your partner have your creative representation ready to show the class?- Are the notes you have made during the other presentations complete to the best of your

    ability?
