Let’s get knotty: (The mooring hitch)

What is the mooring hitch used for?

The mooring hitch is used to tie boats to docks, or poles. The mooring hitch can also be used to

secure a line to a boat.

Step 1

First, droop the line over your left hand, with your palm up.

Step 2

Pinch the two ends together to make a medium-sized loop.

Step 3

Take the right line and cross it over the left .

Step 4

Twist the lines once more so that you have twisted the line twice.

Step 5

Fold the loop over the twisted portion.

Step 6

Your knot should now look like an 8 in a circle.

Step 7

Pinch the center of the 8.

Step 8

Pull the center of the 8 upward.

Step 9

You now have your mooring hitch!
