It provides a much needed break rom school and an opportunityto do all those things you didnt have time or during the year. Foryou, that might mean taking classes, training or your uture, or

earning some much needed cash hello to student loans!.

My initial thoughts and/or feelings about my summer are:

Throughout the Bible, God urges us to pursue a personal relation-ship with him and have aith that produces action. Maybe thatsalready a reality in your lie or perhaps its something you want to

    be true o yoursel.

Whatever the case, God wants you to grow in your relationshipwith him, gloriy him and increase your aith. Growth could mean

going on a mission project with Cru or your church, working backhome, or linking up with a Christian community on your campus.

Lets look at Gods Word as well as your past, present and utureto help you during the process o discerning Gods will or your

summer. Our hope is that this booklet can encourage you to

    TRUST GOD FOR BIG THINGS!

THINK ABOUT THIS: THE GOD THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE KNOWS THE

NUMBERS OF HAIRS ON YOUR HEAD (LUKE 12:7). HE IS PRESENT IN YOUR

LIFE AND HE KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED THIS SUMMER (HEBREWS 13:5)

How did these people respond when theyrst encountered God? Throughout the Bible

    God called men and

    women out o their

    ordinary lie to be a

    part o his mission.

    This summer is an

    opportunity or you

    to be used by God.

    Discerning how he

    is calling you takes

    courage but you will

    grow closer to God as

    you trust his lead.

God calls each o us to live out his eternal,

glorious mission. He creates us, shapes usand gives us talents. God even uses us inour weakness.

It is easy to look at the stories o peopleGod used in the Bible as extraordinaryheroes. But really, these were ordinarypeople, like you and me, that God used inextraordinary ways.

How did God lead and provide or each o these people? What was the outcome of their experience?

How do you relate to the ears, doubts orinsecurities they had?

BrandonI learned that when we look atGod and how big he is and ocus

on what he has done or us, eardissolves into nothing. Only thegrace o God is let.

    18 Our Stories

I knew at the beginning o the schoolyear that God wanted me to go on aSummer Project. He had placed a desireon my heart to take my summer andserve him, and the Sacred River SummerProject was the perect way to do that.

Ater I applied, I ound out I needed totake two classes during the summer inorder to graduate.

I assumed that classes would be overbeore project began, but during springbreak I discovered that Project wouldbegin beore my classes would end.

I elt so lost. I didnt know ithis meant I should orgetschool, orget Project or dosomething else entirely. I hadno direction.

I met with my advisor to talk about my

dilemma and she inormed me that Icould substitute one o the courses witha three week alternative.

I started crying in her ofce. At thatmoment I knew that God wanted me onthis project and that He had already setin motion the good that He wanted meto do.

This instance acted as my anchor while

preparing or the project.I was able to look back at how Godprovided this class and trust him throughsupport raising and nding a way to endmy second class early.

God really taught me to trust in his planand understand that his aithulness isunending and unchanging.

I had a hard time making the decisionto go on a Summer Project. It was anongoing battle. I had a good oundationat home, a girlriend, an amazing job, andI led a Bible study.

I was really torn and prayed about it ormonths, and discovered that God wantedme to expand my horizons and trust him.In the end, support raising became my

    biggest obstacle.

I even stood in ront o the mailbox;shaking. I didnt want to let go o my$400 deposit. When I nally let go I knewthis was itI needed to rely 100 percenton God.

Im a very rugal person and in mymindset asking all o my close riends, relatives, and people in my church or

    money was a handout.

I remember writing lists oother ways to raise support. But God kept pointing meback to raising support and Icontinually crossed out myill-conceived alternatives.

I met up with a buddy who had raisedsupport beore and he explained that insending letters and making phone calls Iwas giving people a unique opportunityto participate in Gods work.

Thats basically how God worked inmy heart, that one conversation with abuddy, letting God speak through himand get through to me. I learned it wasnt

    a handoutit was a partnership.

It was the rst time I prayed to God andsurrendered the situation to him. Nomatter how hard it got, I was going to tryto rely on him.

Ater that things began to happen, puzzlepieces began to click, and God started towork.

Beore I arrived in Chicago or Project,God provided 60% o my support, andthen when I got to project I decided towrite a check or the remainder.

I never thought that money was an idolor me but it was. Once I let go Godwas able to work and I continued to seesupport come in during Project.
