Lincoln to Grantham pipelineI wanted to get in touch to make you aware of an important new scheme we are planning in the county, and to ask for your support as we plan the work and undertake our early design.

The East of England is one of the driest regions in the country receiving on average, only two thirds of the national average rainfall, as well as being home to one of the fastest growing populations outside London. Because of this, we need to plan ahead to safeguard our precious water supply for years to come. The purpose of the Lincoln to Grantham pipeline scheme is to help safeguard future water supplies in the region.

A new water pipelineAs part of this ‘future-proofing’ work, we are planning a new water pipeline which will run between Lincoln and Grantham with a water storage tank and three pumping stations along the route. This new pipeline will allow millions of litres of clean, safe drinking water to be supplied every day to customers in Greater Lincolnshire, and further south if needed.

We’re currently identifying the pipeline route and agreeing timescales for design planning and construction. We are working on a route that minimises impact on the environment and the community.

How will this affect you and your community?The design and planning stage will last for about a year. During this time you may see our teams carrying out survey work and in some areas limited excavations to investigate sites of archaeological interest.

Construction work is due to start towards the end of 2019, but this will be confirmed when the planning process has been completed. Once started, construction for the whole 55km route, will take about two years.

It is our intention to minimise impact on our customers and the community, with the pipeline likely to follow a largely rural route through farmland. We are talking to land owners and farmers about the route.

Before construction starts we are committed to keeping you informed and minimising the impact of our work. We will choose to use techniques such as directional drilling for road crossings wherever possible. This is a technique which minimises the amount we need to dig to install new pipes. It reduces our carbon footprint which is good for the environment as well as reducing disruption to our customers and road users.

Enclosed is a plan of the proposed pipeline route with a more detailed view of the area nearest to you.

Although the village will not be directly affected, you may see an increase of construction traffic in the area whilst we complete this section of work.

To cross some of the small roads it is possible that we will have to close a section of the roads temporarily; however this will be confirmed nearer to construction. We are currently planning to drill under the B6403.

We would like your commentsIn order to deliver this vital work, we need to have a good understanding of all the important environmental features and community uses of the land along the pipeline route.

To help with this, we are keen to get your thoughts on our plans so that we can understand any issues and reduce the overall effect of constructing the scheme.
