LEUNG BIK WING CHUN
In Southern China, the Leung Bik Yi! "an Wing Chun S#$te% i$ &'a$$i(ie) a$*
“the attack fighting system” of wing chun.
A'' other +ing &hun $#$te%$ are &'a$$i(ie) a$*
“the self defence fighting system” of wing chun.
The Leung Bik Yip Man wing chun system is very unique. t has ! forms" where all other
wing chun styles have # forms. might state" that some systems have only $ form" which
is known to include the # forms in one.
The Leung Bik system has the “advanced %il Lim Tao form” unique to this wing chun
style.
&hum 'iu and Biu (ee forms are totally different than the main stream wing chun.
)ragon pole and Butterfly sword forms are also very different in structure and dynamics.
*lso" the wooden dummy set has more footwork" different sequences and so on.

Leung (an “king of wing chun” would not initially teach wing chun to his %on" LeungBik. Leung (an thought his %on would use wing chun for illegal activity. Leung Bik was
always getting in trou+le" mainly for fighting in the streets and accepting challenge
matches.
,is martial skill was very good" consisting of southern kung fu and a little +it of wing
chun" from what he picked up from his friends.
Leung Bik reali-ed that the wing chun of the day had many limitations in a fighting
environment and decided to use everything that “worked”" meaning" he eperimentedwith a variety of techniques from other systems.
Leung Bik eventually met up with one of his /ather0s teachers and learnt wing chun from
him for a couple of years. 1ventually" his father" Leung (an found out and decided to
adopt his %on as one of his disciples.
Leung (an taught his %on everything he knew a+out wing chun" even passing down some
traditional wing chun manuscripts which are still in circulation" today" in /oshan.
2hen Leung Bik decided to develop his own wing chun system" he incorporated all hismartial knowledge and skill to create a very dynamic and unique form of wing chun.
Leung Bik0s wing chun system included many more kicks kicks as well as straight line
wing chun attacking kicks. ,e also decided to develop kicks that covered all gates formhigh to low. 3+viously" from his many street fights" Leung Bik reali-ed the limitations of
the wing chun at the time" therefore" incorporated many etra techniques not seen in wing
chun styles at the time.
*fter Leung (an retired from teaching in /oshan" he returned to his native village of
4ulao" where he taught a synthesised version of wing chun" due to his age. ,e called this
a 56 point system and named it 7ien %un 2ing &hun. 8side on wing chun9.

The principles of “side on wing chun” share many core concepts and principles with his
%on0s wing chun system.
Leung Bik Yip Man 2ing &hun system and Leung (an0s 4ulao 7ien %un 2ing &hun
share many core principles and concepts" +eing" &entral Line theory" &entre Line theory"
7arallel Leg fighting" &ircular footwork" *ttack and defend simultaneously and the side
on neutral stance.
Martial *rts circles suggest that 4ulao wing chun is the purest in the 2orld due to its
isolation from the commercial world.
&onsidering the 6 systems share many core principles" one can assume the 6 systems
have the same origins from Yim 2ing &hun and her hus+and" Leung Bok &hao.
Today" there is much negative pu+licity concerning the authenticity of Leung Bik and hiswing chun system. * lot of people in the wing chun fraternity state that Leung Bik never
eisted.
)ue to my recent roots of wing chun china trips" have come to the conclusion that hedid eist and that Leung Bik did in fact create a unique wing chun system and passed it
down to Yip Man" whom in turn taught it to 2illiam &heung.
My wife and have +een fortunate enough to learn the much sought after 4ulao 7ien %un
2ing &hun from a leading wing chun master from 4ulao village. ,is name is 4rand
Master /ung 'eun" the son of the late legendary /ung &hun.
n /oshan" the wing chun Masters acknowledge Leung Bik with much respect and
honour. They call his system the true attack fighting system of wing chun.
There are literal etracts of Leung (an and Leung Bik0s eistence in the /oshan Museum.
Yip Man0s son stated to me that his father had # teachers +ut only one %ifu" Leung Bik
+eing one of the teachers. have photos of Leung Bik0s manuscripts that were given to
Yip Man.Yip Man0s nephew" Lo Man 'am also talks a+out Leung Bik" during his stay with Yip
Man.
&ategoric proof that Leung Bik did eist: *nd that the Traditional concepts of wing chun
are still +eing adhered to" today.
