MAD Mission

• The mission of the Merck Allies for Disabilities ERG is to build a value adding resource group to the organization by concentrating efforts in the following areas:– Promoting disability awareness and inclusion throughout colleague

training programs and educational seminars– Assisting in the evaluation and implementation of accommodations and

assistive technologies through constituency and industry benchmarking– Contributing to the professional development of colleagues through

networking and mentoring opportunities – Providing support to Global Diversity and Inclusion and Human

Resources Colleagues in respect to training, development, recruitment and education for colleagues and their family members with disabilities

2010 MAD Accomplishments

Our Vision is to build a dedicated resource group that promotes diversity and inclusion for colleagues with disabilities, colleagues with disabled family members and other allies throughout the organization.

•Despite having her right leg amputated at age five, Bonnie St. John is the first African – American ever to win both Olympic silver and bronze medals in ski racing in the 1984 Paralympics in Austria. She is a Harvard graduate, Rhodes Scholar, best-selling author and former White House official.•Bonnie gave an empowering and inspiring presentation at two Merck sites this fall. Bonnie ahs agreed to mentor the MAD steering committee through 2011.

•Disability Mentoring Day – October 20, 2010•Merck Allies for Disabilities (MAD) ERG sponsored Disability Mentoring Day at three Merck sites; Kenilworth, Summit, and Rahway.

- 50 mentees from Rahway High School, Roxbury High School, JFK Rehabilitation Institute

- Colleague mentors from various departments, including Research, Finance, Global Services and Consumer Care

•DMD is an opportunity to promote career development for students and job-seekers with disabilities through job shadowing and hands-on career exploration and provides and opportunity to emphasize connections between school and work, evaluate personal goals and explore possible career paths.

Judy Cusick, Doris Burman and Trish Egidio with their mentee Laura Clark from Rahway High School

Melanie Henry and Larry Golec, who are both volunteers on our Kenilworth fire brigade, demonstrate firefighting techniques to Taquan Gray, Mike Sims and Omar McNair who are students at Rahway High School.

Partnership between MAD and Recruiting & Staffing2011 Goals• Create an internal and external marketing campaign

inclusive of ad placements, articles, etc. to create awareness and educate the masses on recruiting initiatives

• Work together to staff recruiting events throughout the year including: COSD, Diversity Expo in STEM, Wounded Warriors

• Disability Etiquette training for Merck Veterans and People w/Disabilities Recruiting Council members, later to be rolled out to all recruiters

• Create more alignment between recruiting and MAD through regular meetings and updates on recruiting council’s progress

Recruiting People With Disabilities

Goals and Objectives• Develop short and long term candidate sourcing pools for veterans and

PWD through the continued development of strategic relationships with veteran associations on college campuses, through SACC and other recruiting events organized by our external veteran search partners and additional external partners (TBD)

• Target veteran and PWD community through enhance employment branding initiatives internally and externally

• Create a formal on-boarding check-in process with Veteran and PWD hires (30, 60 and 90 contact with hires)

• Create a diversity recruiting process with an increased number of applicants screened for general and technical competency and elevated to candidate pipeline status for experienced hiring needs

• Outline specific Veteran and PWD recruiting goals for each division
