“Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done.”- Genesis 2:1-3

“H-O-L-I-D-A-Y” comes from the combination of the words “holy” and “day”.

“The LORD said to Moses, ‘Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies."

'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.’

'These are the LORD's appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times: The LORD's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. ….” – Leviticus 23: 1-5

As God is the living God, that means what He did for others in the past, or what He had done for you in the past, He can also do for you now.

Page 12: Leviticus 23

In Joshua 11, Joshua was faced with something far more terrifying than the 5-king coalition in Joshua 10.

Page 13: Leviticus 23

“When Jabin king of Hazor heard of this, he sent word to Jobab king of Madon, to the kings of Shimron and Acshaph, and to the northern kings who were in the mountains, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the western foothills and in Naphoth Dor on the west; to the Canaanites in the east and west; to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the hill country; and to the Hivites below Hermon in the region of Mizpah. They came out with all their troops and a large number of horses and chariots — a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore. All these kings joined forces and made camp together at the Waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.- Joshua 11:1-5

Page 14: Leviticus 23

Life’s greatest battles often come in the shadows of success.

Page 15: Leviticus 23

What gave Joshua the courage ?

Page 16: Leviticus 23

What gave Joshua the courage ? God promised Joshua in verse 6 that God will give them the victory, and Joshua remembered all the past miraculous victories God had already given them, so he had the faith to trust in God’s faithfulness.

God gives us the Sabbath, or the Lord’s Day, so that we may have sufficient time to slow down from our hectic schedule to reflect on God’s presence in our lives.

2. Day of Sacred Assembly

We could have encountered a lot of things, some of which could pollute our souls, or we might have fallen to temptations, …

Come back to God’s sacred assembly to be humble before Him again, and to give to Him the bad things in our lives.

2. Day of Sacred Assembly

We could have experienced suffering, and feeling discouraged or in despair. …

Come here to discover again that God is indeed with us. We also encourage one another in the faith.

3. Sabbath to the Lord

The Sabbath is for us to grow deeper in our relationship with God.

We do that by reflecting on what God is doing in our lives presently.

Review the week that has just past :

1. Identify the major events – spiritual practices, meals, appointments, interactions with others, significant events at work

2. Reflect on each event – notice where God seemed to be loving you, blessing you, protecting you, speaking to you, guiding you, or showing you something new

about himself

• What are my deepest feelings and longings ? • What do I need to confess to God ? • In what areas of life do I need God the most ?• What purpose does God have for my life ?

Page 38: Leviticus 23

Come earlier to church, OR after the service has ended, linger in God’s presence for a while more, and review your week or ask yourselves these questions.

Take some time to be holy, by realizing and be thankful for the miracles and blessings God is giving you now.
