Ottoman Lady of the 18th century

Ottoman Court painter Levni (1680-1732) is one of the last representatives of classicalOttoman miniature art. Levni created paintings depicting events of Sultan Ahmed III, maleand female portraits and portraits of Ottoman Sultans very successfully and reflected strongWestern influence in his works thereby brought in some serious changes to classicalpainting understanding. Human faces in Levni miniatures are realistic and meaningful.Ottoman lady in pink in reclining position resting on her head miniature is an impressivework. Original miniature is in 17x9.5cm size and located at Istanbul Topkap PalaceMuseum. According to Ottoman poets, beautiful womans face resemble moon. This lady

is resting her head on a big pillow as she leans on one elbow. She has unclasped her belt,her eyes are closed, either in sleep or in daydreaming. This lady drawn by Levni isbeautiful and she is aware of her beauty and charm making her a cruel charmer. Thecolors are soft and lines are gracefully naturalistic in this miniature of Levni. It is so realthat when looked closely, the soft movement of her clothes can be seen.
